David Kingsbury
Hello! I'm a licensed clinical psychotherapist residing in Kentucky. I've practiced for over a decade in a variety of treatment settings including residential, intensive outpatient, and outpatient programs. While I have also worked in an administrative role of building treatment programs, my passion is to connect with people individually and share their journey of growth and transformation. If you're looking for someone to partner with you on your dreams, someone to grab your hand and pull you over the mountain's summit, then I'm excited to be a part of your inspiring story.
First session
The first session is critical because it is in this session that we lay the foundation for our therapeutic relationship upon which everything else will be built. As a result, this session is an opportunity for introductions, Q&A, and voicing concerns. Then, the focus shifts to thoroughly evaluating someone's life situation and identifying the specific actions that can be taken to improve it.
Strengths
I actually care. I could list a bunch of stuff about credentials, experience, knowledge, track record of success, etc. but, ultimately, my most important strength as a counselor is that I truly care about my clients. I want to see them overcome their challenges. I want to see them living the life of their dreams. But maybe I'm just saying this? To be certain, if I were you, I'd take a few minutes to connect with me and see for yourself.
Ideal clients
I like working with those who are motivated and solution-focused. While I can assist with increasing motivation and drive, those who know they want to change and are prepared to do the work necessary to bring it about are positioned far better for success. If you know something in your life isn't working and you're ready to do something about it, then its time for us to get together and develop a plan.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I utilize CBT to help clients overcome negative or distorted thinking that impairs their ability to function and express emotion in healthy ways.
Psychoeducation
I use psychoeducation to help clients understand the nature of their condition and why certain interventions or life skills are helpful in managing it.
Existential
I use existential therapy to help clients answer questions or resolve conflicts related to their values, identity, life meaning, and life purpose as well as to develop their faith and spiritual beliefs.
Compassion-Focused
I use Rogerian techniques to help build trust in the therapeutic alliance and behavior modification to assist people with shaping, creating, or eliminating target behaviors.
Psychoanalytic
I use psychoanalytic techniques to help people develop deep insight into their subconscious motivations and drives.
