Hello! My name is Stephanie Gerwick and I have been a counselor since 2017. I have worked in various settings, both outpatient and school-based and love working with people to meet their mental health goals. The first step of reaching out to find a counselor takes courage, so kudos to you for taking that step! I look forward to getting to know you and helping you along in your mental health journey.
During your first session, you can expect a session that involves a lot of getting to know each other. You may be anxious for your first session and that is OKAY! During this session, I will ask questions about some of your background and concerns. We will also work together to determine some of your counseling goals. This is also an opportunity for you to get to know me! Feel free to ask me questions about my counseling approach/style or express any concerns or preferences you have too.
My counseling approach is focused on building therapeutic rapport and engaging in active listening. I believe that the client is the driver of change and that the counselor is best suited to provide new perspectives and to help the client develop new tools for their own success. I look forward to helping my clients build a stronger toolbox of skills that can help them find greater success when facing obstacles or stressors in their daily lives.
My ideal client is someone who is ready for growth and change. First time seeking therapy? No problem! I love helping new clients through their journey. This is truly your journey and I am happy to be an ear to listen and provide some new perspectives along the way.
I believe that using a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach allows clients to better understand how their thoughts, feelings and actions are related. This then gives power back to the client, allowing them to have a choice in their own growth and change.
