(she/her)
Hi there! I'm a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with 2 years experience as a PMHNP and over 20 years' experience in health care. I work with clients who want to improve their mental wellbeing. This might include balancing mood, decreasing anxiety-related symptoms, addressing unhelpful thoughts or behaviors, or getting more restful sleep. Many of my clients would say they are struggling to function in their everyday lives, although often the people around them don't realize this. Together, we take a close look at what is bothering you. We will identify factors that have contributed to how you are feeling and work as a team to find solutions that will work for you. Tools I use in practice include: Holistic assessment, Lab work, Medications, Supplements, Therapy, Coaching, and Lifestyle Modification.
In the first session, I will ask lots of questions. I want to know about the symptoms you are experiencing and when they began. I will also ask about your medical history, current medications, and any relevant family history. I often order lab work as part of the initial assessment and many clients choose to get GeneSight testing prior to starting new medications. Once the initial assessment is finished, we will begin to explore treatment options.
I am a strong listener who is driven by curiosity, compassion, and a deep appreciation for the human condition. My approach to working with clients is collaborative, strength-based, growth-oriented and solution-driven. I feel strongly about providing personalized care that is aligned with the individual needs and specific goals of each client. I take a holistic approach. I look at the big picture because feeling mentally unwell is an indicator that something in the body, in our relationships, or in our daily lives is off-balance. I have additional training in functional psychiatry which means I like to look for root causes, not just treat the symptoms. For clients who are interested, I can suggest non-medication options (like supplements and dietary adjustments). I am thoughtful and thorough. I offer evidence-based solutions and am always on the hunt for new approaches. When I feel a client could benefit from resources in addition to or beyond what I can offer, I will provide referrals as needed.
Clients who get the most out of working with me are looking for more than a quick fix. They are looking for long-term solutions and they want to be active participants in their own care. They are willing to be vulnerable and honest about their experiences. They are open to trying new approaches.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral tools to help clients observe their own thought patterns so they can understand how these thoughts are shaping their feelings and actions. By challenging and reframing automatic thoughts, my clients change the way they experience and interact with the world.
Motivational Interviewing
I use Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help clients identify patterns or behaviors they want to change and determine their own compelling reasons for change. This enables clients to transform wishful thinking into life-changing action.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I use Solution Focused Brief Treatment (SFBT) strategies to empower clients to take action and create meaningful change in their daily lives.
Psychoeducation
I educate clients about their treatment options, whether medication, lifestyle changes, coping strategies, or various approaches to therapy. I encourage clients to take an active role in their care and ask questions.
Strength-Based
I work with clients to identify patterns, behaviors, and beliefs that are currently working for them. By leveraging strengths, clients find it easier to break free from patterns that are no longer serving them.
