New to Grow
I have worked as a therapist for over 10 years, helping individuals and families find clarity and internal resources to meet their challenges. Throughout the years, I have had the honor of listening to people's stories, watched people's hidden strengths come to the light, and walked with others as they learn what works for them. I am trained in various evidence-based modalities, such as Play Therapy, EMDR, AF-CBT, Circle of Security, and TF-CBT, which allow me to tailor my approach to client needs.
In our first session, you'll be able to ask me questions, find out a little bit about me and my beliefs about therapy. I will also ask you about your experiences with the mental health field- the good, the bad, and the indifferent. It is important for me to understand your current world and how all the relationships in your life factor in. You may be asked to complete specific assessments based on your stated concerns and any underlying needs that have gone unmet. However, ultimately, the first session is our time to decide together what is possible.
I tend to incorporate mindfulness, journaling, and body-based coping skills. And if desired, spiritual reflection from various traditions and cultures. The whole person is in front of me, and the whole person can grow through this process. I tend to find connections that others miss, and I value what our current culture tends to dismiss.
The clients that I have seen the most success with have some things in common. They may have lost a sense of self or self-directed energy. Some have never had a grasp on this and have always sensed it's absence, but couldn't quite name it. Either way, it is something they have longed for, or find that they long for. Clients who stay curious with this experience authentically go from a state of confusion to authentically co-creating with me in the therapy space. I find that one of my greatest strengths is to help others uncover the shine within.
Adlerian
Anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship stressors all boil down to how we connect to ourselves and others. Connection is the key. I tend to incorporate mindfulness, journaling, and body-based coping skills, and if desired, spiritual reflection from various traditions and cultures. The whole person is in front of me, and the whole person can grow through this process.
Attachment-based
A baseline of safety and stabilization is needed before any other positive experience can happen. Some people need support in returning to this baseline. Some have never known a true sense of safety. I am here to help you discover the underlying conditions that create this sense of safety and stabilization, to address the needs that have gone unmet.
EMDR
I utilize EMDR to target specific traumatic memories that may impact daily functioning and nervous system engagement.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
At it's core, DBT incorporates mindfulness, distress tolerance, and relationship effectiveness skills to improve daily functioning and relational satisfaction. I teach and utilize DBT skills in session, and may assign similar homework outside of session.
Integrative
Not every problem that is brought to therapy can be solved by one standard approach. I integrate my practice with the underlying assumption that all humans have basic needs- physical, relational, psychological, and spiritual. Many theories and models of treatment incorporate this same idea, and in practice, some methods are more effective for one individual, and other methods are more effective for another.
