Hello! Thanks for visiting my profile. I received a Master of Arts degree in psychology/ behavioral sciences from the University of Houston, Clear Lake in 1992 and in 1999 became a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. I later obtained supervisor status for counselor associates who are working toward becoming fully licensed. I have been in private practice for the last 20 years working in various settings with children, adolescents and adults.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're currently facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions but also give us an opportunity to collaborate on your goals and discuss your expectations.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I approach counseling from a cognitive behavioral perspective and surmise that many behaviors are a direct result of thoughts, emotions and environmental influences. My personal faith is integrated in my counseling process which is from a Biblical worldview. I firmly believe that our most pure form of hope is found in Christ. Be assured that I will work with you with respect and humility, no matter your religious, ethnic or cultural background. Having worked in a variety of mental/ emotional/ behavioral health settings, I have developed a unique professional perspective in regard to many avenues' life may take someone. I strive to be flexible, adaptable and teachable in my practice so that my clients are comfortable being vulnerable. I make intentional effort to set aside judgement and seek to understand.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I have extensive experience working with people across the lifespan, struggling with various behavioral and emotional concerns such as attachment and adjustment issues, ADHD, depression and anxiety. I also offer counseling for life experiences that may feel overwhelming, like parenting, change in vocational circumstances, or 'adulting'.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I have been using ACT with adults for several years to address current issues with a focus on taking small, committed steps to resolve identified issues. I have had continuing education training with this model.

Christian Counseling

I have been a Christian for many years and believe faith is the strongest foundation for emotional health. I use my Christian faith to encourage and support my clients throughout our relationship, whether it be overt or covert in presentation depends on the individual client.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have extensive continuing education with this model. I provide CBT processing experiences for all ages, modified based on cognitive abilities, which often includes a psychoeducation component.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I've had a fair amount of continuing education with person-centered and utilize it along with other therapies. I believe clients are the best advocate for themselves and developing self-awareness is paramount to this aspect of executive functioning.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Sometimes, life throws us curveballs and we simply need focused guidance on moving forward toward our identified goals and values. Solution Focused therapy is used to manage transitions and hurdles that may have been unexpected with solutions that address those directly.
