Hi! I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Texas. I received my Masters from John Brown University in Arkansas and have been practicing for 10 years. I love working with young adults struggling with depression, anxiety, and those who are trying to figure out who they are outside of their family of origin. I feel therapy should be guided first and foremost by my clients and seek to create a safe space that allows them to be vulnerable.
In our first session we will start with introductions and then dive into the current challenges you are facing. We will discuss goals for treatment so that I can create a individualized plan for our follow-up sessions. We'll track progress you're making and can adjust our goals as needed.
I have experience working with both individuals and groups, adolescents and adults and have found a passion for helping young adults challenge negative beliefs they hold about themselves, others, and the world. I love helping my clients identify their values and like to approach therapy from a strengths based perspective. I believe I can support my clients best by providing a validating and empathetic environment and by allowing them to lead the session. I love incorporating Christian values into session, if desired by clients, and can be more directive in session as needed.
I love working with college age and young adults who are trying to figure out who they are. My clients often are struggling to identify who they want to be and the values they hold apart from the family they grew up in and often need help learning how to implement healthy boundaries. I help my clients learn to manage their depression and anxiety while exploring beliefs they hold about the world that may contribute to negative thought patterns.
I've been using CBT in group and individual sessions for the past 10 years. I use CBT to help clients challenge negative thought patterns, to create new thought patterns, and to manage their depression and anxiety. We'll use CBT to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence one another.
I like to integrate DBT skills into sessions with clients by teaching and practicing Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance and Emotion Regulation skills, and helping clients build and improve Interpersonal Relationship skills. I have used DBT for the past 5 years with clients and have seen marked improvement in my clients ability to tolerate distress, manage their emotions, and increase healthy coping skills.
