LISW, 7 years of experience
New to Grow
My name is Katrina Herweh, and I’m a social worker from Cincinnati, Ohio. I earned my Bachelor’s of Social Work in 2017 from Xavier University. In 2018, I graduated with my Master’s of Arts in Social Work from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. I began my PhD in Social Work at Loyola University of Chicago in 2021, where I am currently a PhD Candidate. My research area of interest incorporates pediatric medical trauma, hospital discharge, mental health in healthcare settings, trauma-informed care, and interprofessional healthcare. I have over 7 years of clinical experience as a child and family therapist and have been facilitating virtual therapy since 2020. I currently reside in Buffalo, New York, with my husband, two cats (Louie and Gretta), and our one-eyed Golden Retriever (Walter). Outside of social work, I love hiking, coffee, traveling, and trying new vegan food.
Our first session focuses on discussing your symptoms, feelings, life transitions, and stressors to gain a deeper understanding of what you're going through. We will also identify your goals for therapy, so we know what we're working towards.
My approach is client-specific because my clients are in the driver's seat. My goal is always to work with you, riding in shotgun, so to speak, with the navigation. I integrate narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing to help you achieve your goals.
Looking for an empathetic therapist who gets you? Do you have: Anxiety, Depression, Life stress, and/or Trauma? I’m ready to work with you to manage and overcome the overwhelming and heavy parts of life. Treatment modalities I utilize in my clinical practice include: Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Strengths-Based approach I believe social workers have an ethical obligation to take insurance rather than self-pay. Life is already expensive. Coping with life stress, supported by a therapist, shouldn’t add to the financial stress.
I utilize Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with adolescents who have experienced trauma to master coping skills and re-train the brain how it thinks about the trauma to be able to retell the trauma story in a creative way for processing the trauma.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is helpful for identifying and re-defining negative or automatic thoughts and patterns in thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. CBT helps with treating anxiety and depression.
