Hi, I'm Emily. I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist and I love to walk alongside clients as they dig into their lives in order to live more wholly. Wholehearted living comes from becoming aware of patterns and behaviors getting in the way of where they want to go. The therapeutic relationship is the best part of therapy to me, the connection and synergy that brings about change, growth and support. My Master's degree was obtained through a medical school and focused on the overlap between our physical bodies and the mental health aspect of life. I believe this positioned me to receive a wholistic-focused introduction to the mental health world. I went on to receive my clinical hours in a Trauma 1 Hospital where I was a Transitions Counselor. A nurse or doctor would put in an oder for the counselors to provide psychological support as patients learned of new diagnosis, were going into surgery, or were dealing with end of life. Palliative care is a passion of mine, meaning everyone deserves to receive care and comfort even while dealing with a chronic illness. My clinical hours were also spent in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation outpatient hospital. In the past my career took me to Elder Care Law, Senior Living and hospice. My spouse worked with college students for much of his career so I have also become passionate about the intersection between emerging adult and all the transitions that accompany that period of life. In a way, I see what I do as Palliative Care; all of life has joy alongside pain and I want to be a practitioner who helps to alleviate the pain and struggle where I can.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session together we will go over expectations from each other and the therapy process. I will be gathering a history from you and if at any time you do not feel comfortable answering then please let me know. The first few sessions are about getting to know you and where you want to go. You will walk away with some therapeutic direction but my hope is to not overwhelm you. Therapy is a lot about our therapeutic relationship so you're not going to find answers from me about all the things. I believe the answers are within you, it may just take some digging for you to find those answers.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I commit to showing up to therapy with an open mind and lack of judgement but also hold you accountable as you seek to grow.

My treatment methods

Family Therapy

My degree is in family therapy and is the primary lens I see issues through. We all come from a family and are greatly influenced by how we were raised within that family of origin and impacts how live in the world presently.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Much of how we function in the world is to avoid psychological pain but often times we are not aware that we are holding back from all that life has to offer. Through awareness and commitment to action we can allow ourselves to embrace our lives more fully. Living wholeheartedly and authentically are at the heart of ACT.
