Welcome to my practice. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with extensive experience in individual therapy with adults. My therapeutic approach is strength based and solution focused, underscored by an emphasis on the therapeutic relationship. The approach is collaborative and benefits individuals with a wide array of aspirations and desired personal changes. My experience and on-going training includes self care practices, life transitions, intergenerational living challenges, women's issues, and loss and grief. It is my hope that at the close of a client's therapy experience, they will feel more confident and trust in their own ability to navigate life's never ending challenges.
Beginning in the very first session, following an exchange of some initial introductory questions and an explanation about confidentiality, the focus will be on helping you identify what outcome(s) you want to achieve by participating in therapy. That is followed by helping you identify your personal strengths, successes, interests and existing resources. This then serves as the foundation for the therapeutic work needed to reach your desired outcome. Since therapy is not a one size fits all process, sessions are personalized to complement your unique needs and aspirations.
I strongly adhere to the following principles as a psychotherapist. It is essential to meet my clients where they currently are in their personal journey. This is vital for the establishment of a trusting therapeutic relationship. I also believe that every individual has the ability to both achieve a sense of agency and to discover their own way. Another core belief and integral part of the therapeutic process is the emphasis on enhancing a client's sense of hope by underscoring their future orientation. Additionally, being compassionate, direct but not directive, non-judgmental and supportive are crucial core tenets.
The fast pace of daily life is filled with an abundance of expectations, commitments and on-going challenges. As such, we often don't take the needed time for ourselves to stop and consider how we are doing. How nice would it be to have a chance to pause, listen to yourself, explore any personal changes you would like to make and get curious about what it would look like in your life if you made those changes. Therapy can provide a safe and supportive place to do just that. I welcome the opportunity to work collaboratively work with you on achieving your chosen desired outcome.
The person-centered approach is founded in the belief that each of us is unique and capable of discovering our own best way to make personal changes. My role as a therapist is to act as a facilitator and to support and encourage you in your efforts to make those changes. I will begin by helping you identify your desired outcome for therapy, followed by assisting you in recognizing your strengths and successes which will enhance your sense of hope, confidence and trust in your own wisdom. This person-centered collaborative approach is intended to promote self directed positive personal change.
Solution Focused Brief Therapy is future oriented, goal oriented and as the name implies, solution focused, not problem focused. Using this approach, clients are asked to envision what their lives would be like if they made the changes needed to reach their chosen outcome(s) for their therapy experience. This emphasis on future orientation promotes a sense of hope. The approach also encourages individuals to identify and access their personal strengths and resources for support in order to better achieve their desired outcome.
