Hi, I’m Jessica Troxler ~ I believe that it’s important to not overshare with clients and at the same time share a little about myself to start building a trusting therapeutic relationship. I began my professional career as a biology major and decided to switch to psychology. Regardless of my major, I knew that I always wanted to be in a helping profession and to make a positive difference in other people’s lives. I have been in the mental health field for over 7 years. I received my Master’s in Clinical Social Work with a specialization in addiction counseling from Rutgers University in 2019. In my free time I enjoy going to the gym, brazilian jiu jitsu, spending time with friends and family, skiing, traveling, and going to concerts. I’ve had the honor of helping clients through various life struggles, such as, navigating the aftermath of divorce or breakups, addiction, eating disorders, ADHD, schizophrenia, homelessness, anxiety, and depression. I’ve also worked in a variety of settings such as, inpatient mental health facilities, detox centers, and in-home therapy working with families and children. You name it, I’ve probably helped someone through almost every issue that someone can go through in life. I will also offer appropriate referrals if I don’t believe that I can confidently address your specific needs. I utilize different evidenced based practices, such as, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), solution focused therapy, and gottman method couples therapy.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

If you think that we might be a good match and you schedule an appointment, I will work with you in identifying your individualized treatment plan which will be reviewed every 3 months to make sure that we are making progress towards your goals. We will also take our time getting to know each other (mostly me getting to know you) the first few sessions. You should also expect homework and specific skills to practice outside of our sessions. Think of me as your “guide” to reach overall wellness. Remember that you are not alone and I am here to listen, truly understand you, and push you to be the best version of yourself.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Having worked with a variety of different age groups and populations for the past 7 years, I've developed an individualized approach for helping you to identify the root cause(s) of your problems and creating a tailored plan that leads to measurable progress towards your goals.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is a treatment approach that helps us evaluate your maladaptive thought patterns that can negatively impact the way you feel and behave. We will work together to help you to develop tools to challenge your thoughts which can help decrease feelings of anxiety, depressed mood, and any other uncomfortable feelings that you are experiencing. I also give homework for you to practice outside of our therapy sessions.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT is a therapeutic intervention that includes helpful tools to cope with distressing emotions. I will provide psychoeducation on these tools in our sessions if we decide to utilize this treatment approach. We will work together to help you develop mindfulness skills, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy is a strengths-based approach that focuses on your positive attributes and behaviors. I will use this approach to help you focus on the possible solutions instead of problems in your life.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing is a collaborative approach that includes discussions about making changes and identifying the barriers to making positive changes. I will use this method to help motivate you to make positive changes and reach your goals.

Gottman method

I have completed levels 1 and 2 of Gottman Method couples therapy training. We will utilize gottman method in couples therapy to help you and your partner to increase intimacy and respect, develop tools to de-escalate conflict, and increase a sense of empathy and understanding of each other.
