Jackson Straub
Nice to meet you, I am Jackson. I’m a therapist whose journey to this work began behind the bar, where I learned the art of truly listening and connecting with people from all walks of life. My clients often tell me that talking with me feels like catching up with a good friend—comfortable and real—while also knowing they’re in the hands of someone clinically grounded and thoughtful.
Being exposed to a variety of people and their behaviors during my 25 years of bartending before entering the clinical world has enabled me a unique perspective.
I draw from psychodynamic and relational approaches, always emphasizing the importance of genuine human connection in the healing process. I’m trauma-informed and bring my own lived experiences into the room, helping clients feel seen and understood without judgment. My lifelong commitment to health and wellness—including earning a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, surfing, and practicing yoga—deepens the mind-body awareness I bring to my work and has been pivotal on my own path. Whether we’re unpacking the past or navigating the present, I strive to create a space that is compassionate, authentic, and attuned to your whole self.
First session
The first session is best used for you to take a deep breath and allow yourself to unburden the weight of the troubles you have been carrying. No expectations, just allowing yourself to tell your story and for us to connect in the process. As that organically unfolds I will begin to conceptualize what led you here and together we will collaborate what your path to healing will look like.
Strengths
Being exposed to a variety of people and their behaviors during my 25 years of bartending before entering the clinical world has enabled me a unique perspective. Doing my own work to regulate and improve connection while immersed in a difficult environment during those years was challenging, but has been a priceless piece in my practice. I immensely value my clinical knowledge, but witnessing my journey and the multitude of people and their stories along the way are at the heart of my ability to help people change.
Ideal clients
People trying to find meaning or purpose, transitions or adjustment issues, complex trauma, substance use, relationship and attachment issues.
Treatment methods
Psychodynamic
I utilize and engage in a variety of evidence-based practices through my work with clients, but work primarily through a psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral approach. Believe it is important to understand where behaviors have arisen from in order to give us the power to change them. I also engage my clients through a trauma-informed lens and a mind/body wellness perspective.
