Diana Grillo
Feeling anxious more often than not? Caught between who you were and who you're becoming? You don't need to have it all figured out to start therapy, just a willingness to try. I'm Diana Grillo, an LCSW in New York with 20+ years of experience helping adults, especially women, work through anxiety and major life changes like career shifts, motherhood, loss, and changing relationships. My background includes many years working in hospital settings, where I learned firsthand how much people need to feel truly heard during their hardest moments, not rushed, not judged, just supported. That's the foundation of how I practice today.
First session
I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in my practice. In your first session, we'll explore what brought you to therapy and then decide the most appropriate ways to help you make progress. With CBT, we’ll look at how your thoughts affect your emotions and experience. During treatment, I'll help you learn how to push back against those thoughts to change your feelings for the better.
Strengths
In session, we'll combine practical CBT tools to change anxious thought patterns with body-based (somatic) techniques to calm your nervous system, so you leave with strategies you can use that same week, not just insight.
Ideal clients
I have over 15 years of experience helping adults, teens and older adults throughout New York State. I work with clients learning to cope with anxiety, are going through a major life transition or want to learn more about work life balance. I use CBT and somatic based approaches. We will work together to come with up with a plan to help you find balance. I hold a certification in Somatic Therapy for Anxiety from PESI.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to help you notice the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and actions, and how each one affects the others. A lot of anxiety and stress comes from thought patterns that feel true in the moment but aren't always accurate, like assuming the worst will happen or being extremely hard on yourself. In our sessions, we'll gently slow down and look at those thoughts together. I'll help you catch them as they come up, question whether they're really true, and find more balanced ways of thinking that feel more realistic and less overwhelming. This isn't about forcing positive thinking. It's about giving you the tools to see situations more clearly, so they feel less controlling and more manageable. Over time, this can mean feeling less anxious in moments that used to spiral, making decisions with more confidence, and generally feeling more in control of your own mind rather than at the mercy of it.
Somatic
Somatic therapy recognizes that anxiety shows up in your body, not just your thoughts, through things like a tight chest or racing heart. We'll use simple tools like breathing and grounding techniques to help calm your nervous system in the moment, so your body learns it's safe to relax, even under stress. This works alongside our talk therapy to give you relief you can actually feel, not just understand.
