Hello, I'm Debra - a Licensed Independent Social Worker If you're feeling like something's off-like things could spiral if you're not careful-you're not alone. Whether you're in recovery, ready to begin substance use treatment, or searching for a way to feel more grounded and like yourself again, I'm here to support you. I believe that real change is possible, and that everyone has the capacity to grow into the best version of themselves. You don't have to go through it alone. With 20 years experience specializing in addictions, I offer a down-to-earth, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where we can work together at your pace. It's an honor to walk alongside you as you take this next step. I'm glad you're here.
In our initial session, we will take a little time to get to know each other and talk about what brought you in. If you've already completed you intake forms, great, that helps us dive deeper into your concerns and goals. From there, we'll start a personalized plan to address your needs for our next sessions.
As a provider, I'm direct, empathetic, and deeply committed to helping you grow. I'll encourage you to tap into your own strengths.
I've had the privilege of working with a wide range of individuals impacted by addiction and mental health challenges. My professional journey began in Cleveland, Ohio, working with adult women and men in correctional and transitional substance use programs. I moved to a clinical position where I provided outpatient therapy to adults and I often worked not just with the person experiencing addiction, but also with family members who wanted to understand their loved one's journey and learn how to offer support. Later, as a veteran myself, I joined the VA medical center where I worked primarily with male veterans in the addiction program. As a clinician in all these settings, I've learned that everyone deserves the opportunity to grow.
Debra Butterfield Supporting Addiction Recovery offers therapy covered by Buckeye Health Plan, Buckeye Health Plan (Managed Medicaid), Medicaid - Buckeye Health Plan and UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Ohio.
I consider MI central when working with individuals in recovery and those thinking about recovery. It's really about having honest, respectful conversations that help you sort through thoughts and feelings about change - on your own terms. I'm not here to push anyone, instead I help you find your own reasons for wanting something different and build on the strengths your already have to move forward.
Substance use does not happen in isolation. Family support and involvement in treatment are essential to recovery. Addiction affects family roles and boundaries, damages trust and communication, and causes worry and stress that can be emotionally overwhelming. Having family support improves outcomes. I contribute education, interventions, even homework assignments to families committed to improve boundaries, healthy family interactions, and resolving misunderstandings.
For me, Reality Therapy allow person-focused, person-centered methods to help what's called Stages of Change. We will review your respose to the process of making changes before deeloping realistic plans moving forward.
