David Ransen
Trained as a psychologist (Ph.D. from Cornell University). Some 20 years later I earned a second graduate degree in Marriage & Family Therapy. I am a fully licensed therapist in the State of Florida. I have taught psychology at Tulane and Harvard Medical School.
I can help with most any couples problem, as long as both partners are sure they want to stay together. I help individuals with insomnia and all forms of anxiety.
We will spend most of our time creating solutions, instead of analyzing problems. So often, therapy gets bogged down in the endless exploration of problems. Problems are the results of behaviors that didn't work for you in the past. Solutions flow from changes that will work for you starting right now. Solutions make your life better. They bring joy and peace to your life.
First session
I'll be very curious to hear your very best hopes for therapy. Set a high bar! The first step toward creating solutions in your life is visualizing them in rich detail.
Strengths
I help very many couples, married or not, straight or other, from many cultures. I can help with most any couples problem, as long as both partners are sure they want to stay together. No divorce or separation counseling. I treat individuals for a wide array of problems, including anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, irrational fears, and more.
Ideal clients
I help couples — married or not, straight or other — to better communicate and resolve conflict. I help them to rise above the gender stereotypes passed down by their parents. I help parents to improve their effectiveness and satisfaction as parents. I help individuals aged 18 and older with a wide array of challenges, including insomnia and all forms of anxiety.
Treatment methods
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
It's been my experience that people who seek therapy very much want their lives to get better, rather than to talk endlessly about problems. I help people to imagine what solutions will look like — in rich detail — then to make them happen.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-i)
Trained in Sleep Medicine and Insomnia Therapy. 13 years' experience. Fixing sleep problems makes other life problems shrink or disappear, because good sleep builds resilience to life's stressors. Once you begin sleeping well, you shrug off stressful developments that used to feel overwhelming or paralyzing.
Couples Counseling
I am licensed and have deep experience in Couples Therapy, with special interest in the challenges of parenthood. I have helped many couples learn to avoid damaging escalation in arguments.
