LMHC, 8 years of experience
Are you looking for a relatable therapist? Someone who can help you work through life’s struggles with a realistic approach? Maybe experiencing anxiety and depression? Maybe someone who you will laugh with, cry with, and be challenged by? Well, I’m your girl! We all want to be understood and heard. It is a basic human necessity for healing. I do my best to cultivate an environment where you can be open and honest about the struggles you are facing. I will never judge you for anything you are going through because we are all human and dealing with the human experience. Hi there! My name is Alexis Skopos, and I am a licensed mental health counselor in Florida who specializes in Brainspotting, life transition, first time therapy clients, and Greek American clients. I have been described as having a "full personality". I use humor, compassion, and challenging to get you to your therapy goals! I graduated from Stetson University with a bachelor’s in psychology and a master’s in clinical mental health counseling. I have a certification in multiple Brainspotting practices, trauma informed CBT, trauma informed ACT, Gottman couple's counseling, and Prepare/ Enrich. I also have experience working in residential units, crisis units, high schools, child welfare, and methadone clinics.
I will do my little spiel that is required for the start of therapy, we will discuss your therapy experiences, then we will discuss your life and just what has been big experiences in your life.
I got into this field because I know what it is like to deal with mental health struggles due to trauma, biological factors, and environmental factors. My goal has always been to help people stop feeling the way I felt at one point. For anyone who works with me, I am eternally grateful to be a part of the journey!
I am incredibly passionate about working with the LGBTQIA community, sex positive community, body acceptance community, and domestic violence survivors. I am very open minded to most communities and will go the distance to educate myself for multicultural informed care. I come from a Greek background and am passionate about the ancient Greek concept of Sophrosyne, which focuses on improving one’s character and maintaining an upbeat sound of mind. The idea is to lead a well-balanced life and gain a sense of control rather than feeling like your life is spiraling and you don’t have access to the brakes or steering wheel. So that is my approach toward helping others achieve their goals and create new pathways in life to better themselves. We all need to take time for ourselves and connect with a sense of inner peace. In my free time I enjoy candle making, resin art making, doing different makeup styles, and getting tattoos… I think I may have over one hundred tattoos altogether! I love the idea of self-expression and loving your own originality. I believe in the power of creativity, whether in music, art, dance, writing, or whatever brings you happiness. I also think using one’s imagination brings so much joy and inner peace. That’s why I love playing with dogs, games, swimming , and going to state springs in my spare time! I also love collecting plants, designing things, laughing with friends and family, and seeking new adventures. To me, life is full of possibilities, and I try to relish each day to the fullest.
I have training in trauma informed ACT. This is around finding acceptance in things we have little control over.
I have been using CBT since the start of my career. It is the most common technique I use.
I have been using MI since my intro into the field.

Alexis creates a safe, warm environment where I feel safe to open up. She's funny, engaging, open minded, patient. I always feel like she's listening and asks me insightful questions that help me gain a deeper understanding of my individual challenges. She has plenty of availability for scheduling.
