Dr. Tana Haven

LPC, 11 years of experience

Hey there - my name is Dr. Tana Haven (pronounced tan-uh hay-ven) and my pronouns are she/her. As a Queer therapist in a rural area, I love helping others from marginalized communities who have felt or currently feel like outsiders finally feel heard and understood. I describe my one-line specialty as, "identity exploration and affirmation." When the light bulb goes off for people, I feel a sense of enjoyment and satisfaction (selfishly). As someone with ADHD and anxiety, I know what paralysis can feel like... I know what the inability to get started feels like... I know what struggling with executive dysfunction feels like... I am very open and nonjudgmental so that I can A) help you figure out what's going on and B) help figure out what we need to do to get you the solution *you* want! I am open to all ages and populations, but I do most often work with young adults in the LGBTQIA+ community and/or with neurodivergence.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

The first session looks so different from person to person! For some people, we do a lot of background gathering to make sure we have all the bases covered. For others, we take it slow and build rapport. For yet others, we jump right into that presenting problem and get to work! I am a very flexible therapist who is open to both short and long-term therapy so never feel like you have to come to me with all the answers or have your words thought through. Come to me as a babbling mess and we can figure out what works for you together! I don't work with perfect robots; I work with amazing humans.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My flexibility. My compassion. My experience and education. My own story/ representation. My genuine care for mental health and the populations I serve.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Been too scared to try counseling before? Attempted to work with someone but you felt "too weird" or "quirky"? Didn't feel understood? I'd love to meet with you! I specialize in meeting with "others," and being a Safe Haven for personalized care. I have no hidden agendas or objectives. I just want to help you, period. Let me know what's going on, and I'll be your hype woman and help you along your journey.

My treatment methods

Gender-affirming therapy

I identify as Queer and I provide LGBTQIA+ Affirming therapy for sexual and/or affectional identities as well as gender identities. My niche is "identity exploration and affirmation." I'm here to help you understand and love yourself - whoever that is!

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize CBT to help address negative feelings, thoughts, and beliefs. I do so with a personalized, humanistic approach though. It isn't robotic; it is tailored to the person!

Brainspotting

Brainspotting (BSP) is a type of trauma therapy I use with individuals to help combat especially challenging thoughts, beliefs, or episodes. It can be utilized online or face to face!

Reality Therapy

I'm huge on "facing reality." Sometimes we aren't "the problem," but our systems are. Unfortunately, you still have to be the one to do something about it though. I can help you with navigating this and deciding what works best for you!

Person-centered (Rogerian)

Last but not least, person-centered talk therapy. There is a reason it is a golden classic. Maybe you don't know what you need - that is okay! I'm here to listen, hear you out, and help you navigate whatever challenges you are facing... even if you can't pinpoint it yet.
