About me

Hello, I'm Leah. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with an MA, and I have been practicing in Virginia for over five years. My journey in mental health has been driven by a deep passion for supporting individuals and families through their most challenging times. I believe that seeking therapy is a courageous step towards a more fulfilling and happier life, and I am here to support and empower you in that journey. My approach to therapy is rooted in empathy, understanding, and collaboration. I work closely with my clients to create a safe and non-judgmental space where they can explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Together, we identify goals and develop strategies to overcome obstacles and achieve personal growth. I specialize in a wide range of areas, including addiction, ADHD, adolescent and teen mental and behavioral health, anger management, antisocial behavior, autism spectrum support, bipolar disorder, children's mental and behavioral health, depression, developmental disabilities, family relationships, intimate and romantic relationships, life transitions, multicultural and diversity issues, perinatal support (pregnancy, prenatal, postpartum), psychosis and schizophrenia, stress, suicidal ideation and self-harming, trauma, and anxiety. In my practice, I have extensive experience helping clients navigate addictions, family conflicts, grief and loss, and issues related to motivation, self-esteem, and confidence. My goal is to provide a supportive environment where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to make positive changes in your life. Outside of my professional life, I am dedicated to continuous learning and growth, both personally and professionally. I value the importance of cultural competence and strive to understand the unique backgrounds and experiences of each of my clients.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During our initial session, we'll complete the intake process to gather some background information and history. We'll discuss what has brought you to therapy, what goals you would like to focus on, scheduling, expectations of therapy and how you would like to implement changes into your lifestyle. Also, I like to share some information about myself and discuss how we can build a rapport in our therapeutic relationship.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

As a therapist, I try to deliver a balance of grace and empathy, but also challenge clients in their way of thinking, and making their healing journey a priority. I encourage my clients to express their feelings and to be honest with themselves, as well as me as their therapist. Let's talk about what works for you, but also what has not been working. I encourage clients to focus on the goal of therapy, for themselves, not what others may want them to get out of it.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Every client has a different life experiences and a different journey they may be on. I would work best with a client that is ready to embark on a journey of healing, stepping out of their comfort zone, and ready to do some work. Self-motivation is difficult sometimes, but much needed when entering therapy. I would like to assist clients with focusing on their future, the individual they want to be in the next upcoming months.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

As a therapist, my primary treatment method has been Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It has helped numerous clients navigate therapy and explore their feelings, thoughts, and emotions. We can utilize CBT to align your goals for life, as well as your life. I like to utilize CBT as the gateway to explore which other modalities we can incorporate into our sessions.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I believe it is always necessary to acknowledge what is happening in your life, in the moment. Utilizing Mindfulness Based Therapy, allows clients to remain immersed in their experiences and focus on how they are shaping one's path in life. My primary focus using mindfulness, is to assist clients with reducing stress in their lives, by identifying the sources itself.
