You know, life is hard and we don't always get rainbows and unicorns. All of us go through times of disappointment, rejection, sorrow, and loss. We may experience times when we wonder if things will ever get better. I've been a Licensed Professional Counselor for over 20 years and have worked with people from all walks of life, struggling with issues, such as stress related to life transitions, mood disorders, trauma, and relational issues. It has been a privilege to see many individuals grow and change as they face their obstacles, wounds, feelings, and trauma to move toward a new path of healing and life satisfaction. Today our lives can be somewhat isolated, but I want you to know you are not alone or unseen. I am a woman of faith and respect every person I counsel, regardless of their faith, gender, race, or identification. My goal is to provide you with safe, nonjudgmental, empathetic sessions to help you make progress toward your goals. On your counseling journey, I hope to help you discover that choosing to change the way you think can help change the way you feel. Again, life is hard, but it can still be beautiful. Therapy can provide you with insight and relief to be able to face the challenges you encounter daily. Schedule your first session and we will work on life's issues together. Hopefully, you can learn coping skills and move toward wellness mentally, spiritually, and relationally.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

For our first session, I will be getting to know you and your goals for therapy. You will have a confidential setting to be able to express yourself without judgment. I will want to learn about your history and life experiences. We will discuss how often you would like to meet and schedule a future session if you desire. Often it is best to meet weekly or every other week to maintain momentum toward your goals. Some desire coping skills to work on at home between sessions, or helpful tasks such as journaling, and these can be discussed. As you are reaching your goals or feel like you have worked on your issues and see that you are maintaining growth on your new path, you may want to stretch out the time between sessions as you get nearer to the completion of therapy.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I am an eclectic therapist and use a variety of methods in counseling. I have been trained in CBT, CPT, ImTT, person-centered, motivational interviewing, and many stress reduction techniques. The trauma-focused techniques I use do not require the person to go into great detail in relating what they experienced as this can often be traumatizing in itself.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My biggest strength is probably my years of experience. I've been a licensed counselor for over 20 years and am now a supervisor for counseling associates. I have worked in the church setting with those struggling with spiritual and life issues. I've had experience in the inpatient hospital setting where I led CBT-based groups and individual and family sessions. I learned invaluable information about the various mental health diagnoses from the doctors. Next, I worked with individuals in the community mental health setting. Here I had various roles such as counselor, group leader, crisis intervention specialist, and coordinator for continuity of care for those released from hospitals. I also gained further experience in substance use, trauma, and struggles with legal issues.
