I am a licensed mental health counselor in Florida and Utah. I have worked within the mental health field for over 20 years. I specialize in stress management and anxiety. I believe with the right support and guidance many can learn new healthy coping skills that will assist in decreasing symptoms we all possess in response to daily stressors. I have also worked in assisting those who have transitioned from their family of faith and have been able to guide them in learning how to move forward from the shame that is often associated with the transition.
During the first session, rapport and trust will attempt to be established and then goals for therapy will be addressed.
Working within the mental health field for over 20 years, most of the feedback I have received are that I encourage and motivate my clients as well as show compassion and empathy which is needed for many who do not feel heard and/or lack support.
I enjoy working with individuals who often struggle with anxiety and stress. They typically lack healthy coping mechanisms as well as may lack the motivation to implement them within their daily routine.
The solution focused method assists in helping one build solutions and assesses what is actually working for them. It also focuses on strengths, positive attributes and is more goal oriented.
Motivational interviewing helps one identify strengths and utilize those strengths in order to motivate one for change. It incorporates autonomy, acceptance, adaption, empathy and evocation. This method has made a significant impact on clients who lack certainty in making decisions regarding change.
The supportive method is very beneficial as it allows one to be heard and validated which in turn makes one feel understood and be encouraged to learn new coping mechanisms so they can navigate complex emotions.
The strength-based method has been helpful for those who struggle with feelings of low self worth and/or low self esteem. It helps one be able to identify their positive attributes and skills which in turn helps increase their confidence and allows for resiliency.
This method allows one to be able to identify negative thinking patterns and challenge them as well as modify them so the end result is a more positive one.
