If you are looking for someone with more than 26 years of treatment experience to include inpatient and outpatient settings, multiple treatment techniques/modalities, substance abuse/chemical dependency/drug court, trauma, forensic settings, Baker Acts/suicide/self-harm, sex offender treatment, personality disorders, LGBT issues and child/adolescent behavior modification over 8 different companies/institutions, you will have the comfort and reassurance of having an experienced therapist/counselor at your side. I hope the best for you on your journey and would invite you to consider venturing down your path with me as your trail partner. No need to walk it alone!
In our first session, client's will have an opportunity to express what they are looking for in the treatment process, be allowed to evaluate their interest in moving forward with me by their side as they challenge those issues that prevent them from moving on with their lives in a productive, successful and satisfied manner. Client's will be assigned a simple homework assignment to prepare them for the next session. The client will also be allowed to ask questions to hopefully clear the path to their treatment goals.
After more than 26 years of experience in the field, I do not take things personally and I encourage the individuals I serve to challenge themselves and to be strong independent individuals. I utilize a lot of Recreational Therapy in my sessions which has proven time and time again to be a powerful tool in addressing most if not all issues individuals experience. I am also patient and kind when needed and challenging and tough when needed allowing for a different challenge for each session as the individuals I serve progress. My goal is to get individuals out of therapy and not to keep them in it.
To provide a respectful, empathetic, confidential, and therapeutic relationship, my therapy includes a combination of cognitive behavioral, existential, reality and recreation/leisure therapies. Together, we will address such challenges as depression, anxiety, bipolar, relationship, substance abuse, anger, ADHD, self-esteem/worth and personality issues. Through effective educating and treatment planning, you will be an active part in your recovery/treatment process from beginning to end.
This approach allows the opportunity to track progress as well as explore the behavioral side as wells as the cognitive side of issues and their link to the individual. It also blends well with the other methods I use such as DBT, Reality and Existential therapies.
DBT has shown to be effective in treating a multitude of issues and has several useful tools.
The Existential method allows the client(s) to explore their own abilities and strengths.
Reality therapy is an excellent way to challenge the client's beliefs, thoughts, and behaviors.
This approach allows the client to explore their past and how it affects them today.
