New to Grow
Hi, I’m Nathan Popham, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families across a variety of settings. I strive to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, respected, and comfortable being themselves. My approach is warm, practical, and collaborative, and I enjoy helping clients build coping skills, improve relationships, process difficult experiences, and work toward meaningful personal growth.
During the first session, we will spend time getting to know each other and discussing what brings you to therapy. I’ll ask questions about your current concerns, background, strengths, and goals so I can better understand how to support you. The first session is also a chance for you to ask questions, share what you hope to gain from therapy, and decide if I feel like a good fit for your needs. My goal is to create a comfortable, supportive environment where you feel heard, respected, and never judged.
What stands out most about my therapeutic approach is that I focus on creating a genuine, supportive connection while also providing practical tools clients can use in everyday life. I strive to balance empathy and accountability, helping clients feel understood while also encouraging meaningful progress toward their goals. I use evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, trauma-focused therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy to tailor treatment to each individual’s needs. Clients often appreciate that my style is approachable, collaborative, and down-to-earth, while still being goal-oriented and focused on long-term growth and healing.
I am best positioned to serve children, adolescents, young adults, and families who are navigating emotional, behavioral, relationship, or life-transition challenges. Many of the individuals I work with are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, emotional regulation difficulties, family conflict, self-esteem concerns, or stress related to school, parenting, or major life changes. I work especially well with clients who may feel overwhelmed, misunderstood, or stuck but are open to support and personal growth. My approach is compassionate, down-to-earth, and collaborative, with a focus on helping clients build practical coping skills, improve communication, strengthen relationships, and create meaningful long-term change.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help patients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected. Together, we work on identifying unhelpful thinking patterns and building healthier coping skills that can improve daily functioning and emotional well-being.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help patients strengthen emotional regulation, distress tolerance, communication, and mindfulness skills. I focus on helping people learn practical tools they can use in real-life situations while also balancing acceptance and personal growth.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy to help patients focus on strengths, progress, and practical solutions rather than staying stuck in problems. Together, we identify small, realistic steps that can help create positive change and build momentum toward their goals.
Trauma Informed Care
I use trauma-focused approaches to help patients safely process difficult experiences and understand how trauma may still affect their emotions, relationships, and behaviors today. I work at the patient’s pace while creating a supportive environment focused on safety, trust, and healing.
Motivational Interviewing
I use Motivational Interviewing to help patients explore their own goals, strengths, and reasons for change without judgment or pressure. I focus on building motivation through supportive conversations that encourage confidence, self-awareness, and personal choice.
