Hello, and welcome to my profile. I believe you are more than the challenges or circumstances you may be facing. My role is to see and respect you as a whole person while helping you to find ways to move forward. Throughout my career, I have supported people from many walks of life, cultures, and faith traditions. Because every person is different, I take a collaborative approach to therapy. We work together to understand what is happening in your life, what is successful, and where you would like to see change. I especially enjoy those moments when something finally clicks for a client. A new understanding, perspective, or decision can open the door to meaningful change. My goal is to help you reach those moments while providing support and practical tools along the way. Outside of work, I enjoy playing music, reading, gardening, hiking, and spending time with friends.

First session

Our first session is about getting to know you. We will talk about what brought you to therapy, what you hope to gain from our work together, what has helped in the past, and what has not. I believe this part of therapy is important, so I do not rush the process. If we need more than one session to understand your needs and develop a plan together, that is okay. I also like for you to leave our sessions with something useful that you can think about or apply in your daily life.

Strengths

There are many helpful approaches to therapy, but I believe one of the most important parts of the process is knowing that the person sitting across from you truly cares and is listening. I give you my full attention and make space for you to express what matters to you. I may draw from different therapy approaches depending on your needs, but you remain at the center of our work. My style is compassionate, collaborative, and focused on helping you to understand yourself, recognize your strengths, and make changes that are meaningful to you.

Ideal clients

The Clients I’m Best Positioned to Serve I work best with clients who are willing to partner with me in the therapy process. You do not need to have all the answers. A willingness to explore your experiences, consider new perspectives, and work together toward your well-being is a good place to begin. I have particular experience supporting people who are adjusting to chronic illness or disability, as well as those grieving an important loss through death, divorce, or separation. I also work well with bright and gifted individuals. Whatever brings you to therapy, I want our work to respect who you are as a whole person rather than defining you by your characteristics or circumstances.

Treatment methods

Eclectic

I use a variety of therapy tools because I believe treatment should respond to the individual rather than follow the same formula for everyone. We can explore which approaches best fit you and the concerns you want to address. My overall style is compassionate, responsive, and focused on helping you to recognize your strengths and feel more empowered in your life. As our work progresses, we can adjust our approach based on what you find most helpful.

Christian Counseling

I have extensive experience working with people from a variety of Christian traditions. If your faith is important to you and you would like it to be part of therapy, we can incorporate biblical principles into our conversations and the work we do between sessions. Your preferences guide this process. My goal is to respect your beliefs and provide a space where you can explore your concerns in a way that is meaningful to you. If your faith tradition is something other than Christianity, I take your lead and use different approaches.

Psychodynamic

I use a psychodynamic approach to help you explore how your past experiences and development may connect with what you are experiencing today. Together, we can look for patterns and build a better understanding of your thoughts, feelings, relationships, and responses. The goal is not to remain focused on the past, but to use greater self-understanding to help you make choices that work better for you in the present.

Structural Family Therapy

I especially draw from this approach when working with couples. It can help us to look at relationship patterns, roles, and the ways people respond to one another. Together, we can explore what is working in your relationship and where certain patterns may be creating difficulties. This can provide a clearer understanding of the relationship and help to identify healthier ways of communicating and relating to one another.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I find this to be very helpful in helping people to understand how beliefs and thinking impact their understanding and choices. We can examine what you have learned about pain, success ,relationships, emotions and many other parts of life; then we can join in deciding what might serve you better. I especially find this to be helpful in managing the pain and energy challenges that come with chronic illnesses. It is also helpful when building a successful life with a disabling condition.
