Natalie Patton
Hello! I'm Natalie, and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Kentucky. I've worked in the mental health field for about seventeen years, and I honor the courage it takes to start therapy. While I'm currently a full-time therapist in private practice, I've previously worked in a community mental health center, an emergency room, and in programs for people who have experienced interpersonal violence and sexual assault.
First session
People start therapy for a variety of reasons and with a variety of expectations, and in our first session, we'll talk about what brought you here and what you're hoping to gain. While we'll talk about some specifics, I'll also ask questions to help me get to know more about you and your life. The first session is also a time for you to assess whether or not I might be a good fit for you! The relationship between therapist and client is important to me, and the most important part of this process is that your needs are being addressed and met. We'll wrap up our first session with at least one step that we'll each take to move us forward.
Strengths
My clients find a space with me where the quiet parts can not only be said out loud, they can be heard and witnessed without rush to judgement.
Ideal clients
I love working with clients who are looking for a therapist with whom they can be real. I work well with folks who have tried therapy in the past and found it to be too clinical, or too much emphasis on the therapist as the expert. I bring education and experience and insight, but I also bring humility, compassion, and the full awareness that we humans experience things differently.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I utilize CBT techniques to assist clients in identifying and challenging negative and self-limiting thoughts and the core beliefs that drive them. These techniques can often promote behavioral changes and adaptations for clients seeking those results.
Humanistic
I choose Humanistic as an umbrella term to represent my person-centered, narrative approach which has served clients well when they are seeking a therapeutic relationship to support growth and discovery.
Integrative
The work I do with clients is a partnership, and since one size doesn't actually fit all, I pull from multiple modalities in an effort to honor the various ways we all learn, process, and grow. For example, someone who is coping with the impact of trauma might find Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) techniques helpful to process intrusive thoughts, Somatic Therapy techniques helpful to address the mind-body connection, and Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT) techniques helpful to regulate intense emotion.
