I'm David Rothman, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) providing telehealth therapy for adults and couples throughout Colorado. I specialize in helping people navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, and life transitions using a warm, collaborative, and attachment-focused approach. My work integrates Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and psychodynamic therapy to help clients better understand the patterns that contribute to emotional distress, develop practical coping strategies, and foster lasting personal growth. I strive to create a safe, supportive space where clients feel understood, gain greater self-awareness, strengthen their relationships, and create meaningful, lasting change.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin building a comfortable, collaborative therapeutic relationship. We'll discuss what brings you to therapy, explore the challenges you're currently facing, and talk about your personal history, strengths, and goals for treatment. I'll also answer any questions you have about the therapy process so you know what to expect moving forward. My goal is to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you feel heard and understood. Together, we'll begin identifying patterns that may be contributing to your current struggles and develop a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs and goals. Therapy is a collaborative process, and we'll move at a pace that feels comfortable while working toward meaningful and lasting change.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Many people come to therapy wondering, "Will I feel comfortable talking to this person?" or "Will they really understand what I'm going through?" I believe those questions matter just as much as the techniques a therapist uses. My priority is creating a space where you don't feel judged, rushed, or pressured to have everything figured out. You don't need to know exactly why you're struggling or what to say—we'll work through that together. I listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and help you make sense of patterns that may have felt confusing or overwhelming for a long time. I also believe therapy should be more than just having someone listen. I'll help you gain insight into what's driving your anxiety, relationship struggles, or emotional pain while giving you practical strategies you can use in your everyday life. Using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and psychodynamic therapy, we'll work together to understand not only what's happening, but why it's happening—and how to create meaningful, lasting change. Above all, I want therapy to feel like a place where you can be yourself, feel genuinely understood, and leave each session with a clearer understanding of yourself and a sense of hope that things can get better.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many of the people I work with are successful in many areas of their lives, yet privately feel overwhelmed, anxious, disconnected, or emotionally exhausted. Others are navigating a difficult relationship, carrying the effects of past experiences, or simply wondering, "Why do I keep feeling this way?" I work best with people who are curious about themselves and open to change—even if they're scared, skeptical, or unsure where to start. You don't need to have the right words or know exactly what you need. If you're looking for a therapist who will genuinely listen, help you make sense of what's happening, and work with you to create meaningful, lasting change, we'll likely be a good fit.

My treatment methods

Psychodynamic

Psychodynamic therapy helps you understand the deeper patterns that influence how you think, feel, and relate to others. Many people notice they keep reacting in the same ways—whether it's overthinking, people-pleasing, pulling away from others, or repeating unhealthy relationship patterns—but aren't sure why. In our work together, we'll explore how past experiences may be shaping your present life without placing blame on your past. As you begin to understand the "why" behind your emotions and behaviors, you gain more freedom to make different choices instead of feeling stuck in old patterns. Psychodynamic therapy isn't about spending every session talking about childhood. It's about making sense of your experiences, understanding yourself more fully, and creating meaningful change that lasts. My goal is to help you build greater self-awareness, healthier relationships, and a stronger sense of confidence and authenticity in your everyday life.

Attachment-based

Attachment-based therapy focuses on understanding how our earliest relationships shape the way we see ourselves, connect with others, and respond to stress. If you've ever found yourself asking, "Why do I keep ending up in the same kinds of relationships?" or "Why is it so hard for me to trust, communicate, or feel secure?" attachment-based therapy can help answer those questions. In our work together, we'll explore the relationship patterns that may be keeping you stuck while building healthier ways of connecting with yourself and the people who matter most. My goal is to provide a safe, supportive relationship where you can better understand your emotional needs, strengthen your sense of security, and create more fulfilling relationships both inside and outside of therapy.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you understand the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Many people find themselves stuck in patterns of overthinking, self-criticism, worry, or avoidance without realizing how much these habits are affecting their daily lives. In our work together, we'll identify the thought patterns that may be contributing to anxiety, depression, or stress and develop practical strategies to help you respond differently. CBT isn't about forcing positive thinking—it's about learning to see situations more clearly, challenge unhelpful beliefs, and build healthier ways of coping. My goal is to help you leave therapy with tools you can use every day, while also gaining a deeper understanding of yourself and creating lasting change.

Couples Counseling

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) helps couples move beyond the same painful arguments and patterns that leave them feeling disconnected, unheard, or alone. Many couples don't come to therapy because they don't love each other—they come because they've lost the ability to feel understood and connected. In our work together, we'll identify the cycle that's keeping you stuck rather than placing blame on either partner. We'll explore the emotions and unmet needs beneath conflict, improve communication, and help you respond to one another in ways that build trust, safety, and emotional closeness. My goal is to help you strengthen your relationship so you can face challenges as a team and reconnect in a way that feels more secure, supportive, and fulfilling.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is based on the idea that we all want to feel understood, accepted, and securely connected—to ourselves and to the people who matter most. When those connections feel threatened, we can become stuck in patterns of anxiety, conflict, emotional distance, or self-doubt. For individuals, EFT helps you better understand your emotional experiences, recognize the patterns that keep you feeling stuck, and develop a stronger, more compassionate relationship with yourself. Together, we'll explore how past experiences may be shaping your present reactions and work toward responding with greater confidence, clarity, and emotional balance. For couples, EFT helps move beyond blame and recurring arguments by identifying the emotional cycle that's driving conflict. Rather than focusing on who's right or wrong, we'll work together to understand the deeper emotions and needs beneath those interactions, helping you rebuild trust, improve communication, and create a more secure, connected relationship. Whether you're coming on your own or with your partner, my goal is to help you feel more connected, more understood, and better equipped to navigate life's challenges and relationships with confidence and resilience.
