Katie Thomson

LCSW, 3 years of experience

Warm
Empowering
Open-minded

Hi, my name is Katie Thomson, I'm an LCSW in both California and Pennsylvania. I have been a social worker for the past ten years, and became a licensed clinical social worker in 2021. Throughout my time as a social worker I worked multiple jobs including an ICU medical social worker, HUD-VASH care manager, and HIV outreach specialist, among other jobs that have helped me become the therapist I am today. I intend to create a safe and warm space for clients to work on whatever they choose to bring into their sessions. My communication style starts with building rapport with each client by being a listener, as well as empathic, nonjudgmental, and compassionate. Having a good therapeutic relationship is important to ensure that the client can open up and feel safe in processing whatever it is they are going through and bringing with them to each session. I have a history of working with adults with a focus on depression, anxiety/panic attacks, work/life stress, and adoption as well as life transitions (divorce, entering the workforce, etc.)

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Clients can expect to be able to learn about tools to help them handle their anxiety and depression. They will also be able to catch what may be triggering their moods, and learn how to mitigate these triggers.

The treatment methods and tools I utilize

I have training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing, to help adults better understand and navigate depression and anxiety.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Throughout therapy, we will work on tools that you can use both inside and outside of therapy. We will work on learning about emotions and why we have them and understand that every emotion is there for a reason. We will go over mindfulness and understand how to live more in the present which can help reduce anxiety.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Depression, anxiety, adoption (both parents who have adopted, and adults who were adopted and navigating those feelings, or looking into their own biological past), young adult life transitions (college to being a young professional), grief, and divorce.
