Jennifer Mieszala

LCSW25 years of experience

Hello! I am an empathetic, caring therapist, working in social services for over 20 years. Having worked with the court systems, completing alcohol & drug evaluations, working with clients who have legal histories, & clients who have mental health issues, I specialize in supporting clients navigating mood disorders, anxiety, substance use, and addiction-related challenges. My approach to therapy is eclectic thoughtful, drawing from different psychological theories to meet each client’s unique needs. I have a strong foundation in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and feel this approach helps to focus a person on the power of the mind! I strive to be supportive, honest, and direct in my work with clients. Therapy is a collaborative process where you are encouraged, challenged, and supported. I have an eclectic style of therapy where I utilize different theories of psychology including CBT, Psychodynamic, & Object relations. I specialize in cognitive behavioral therapy, and addictions. We’ll focus on getting to know one another and developing an initial sense of direction for therapy. Together, we’ll begin identifying goals and what you’d like your work in therapy to move toward.

First session

I do ask clients to prepare some paperwork so I can get to know a little about their history and background and having this background I ask clients to share their goals and what is on their mind during their first session.

Strengths

I am insightful, empathetic, & do like to get a history of a client's background yet I have a strong belief that our mind is the most powerful part of us and utilize CBT as a way to work with clients to begin to change the way they see themselves & their future. I am honest and like to focus on the strengths of the client.

Ideal clients

I do not think it is fair to ask about client who is ideal, everyone is at a different stage. I do ask that clients have a focus on where they want to be, and to work with myself on their goals. I remind clients that this is their journey and there is work involved, I cannot be doing more work then the client who is asking for change. I do expect clients be willing to do the work themself.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I Use CBT therapy because I truly believe when you work on changing the way you think and approach a situation, you can work on changing how you feel and it will change your view moving forward.
