Hi! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and have been working as a psychotherapist for the past 4 years. I have experience in a number of settings prior to becoming a therapist including working at an inpatient psychiatric hospital for 4 years. I am comfortable working with adults with issues related to anxiety, depression, PTSD and life transitions.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session today I ask a lot of questions about what brings them to therapy, who my clients are, and what they are hoping to get help with. I like to get a sense of what their lives have been like up until this point, what their relationships are like, what they spend their time doing, how they currently deal with their stressors. By the end of the session, we might discuss goals and approaches that I might recommend.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe that my strengths as a provider are being able to pick up on not only what a client is saying, but also their non-verbal communication: body language, tone, silences. I know that as someone who has received therapy himself it can be nerve wracking to share your story with a stranger and you might worry about how what you are saying is being received and if there are ways to improve some of the issues you are dealing with. I take a warm, validating approach that allows my clients to feel understood and seen. As I get to know my clients I believe it is also important to challenge them or point out areas where I have observed they can grow.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I enjoy working with clients who are self-motivated and will take the time outside of therapy to apply skills and techniques that we are working on together. Rather than seeing myself as the expert and my clients as students, I believe my clients are the experts in their own lives and am a guide helping them on their journey. I like to use client-centered approaches like motivational interviewing to uncover my client's goals and aspirations rather than tell them what they should be doing.

My treatment methods

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I use regular meditation and mindfulness practices during my sessions as a way to build mind-body awareness, teach clients practical skills to regulate the nervous system, increase present moment awareness and reduce identification with unhelpful thought patterns.

EMDR

I have my basic training in EMDR and have used it with many of my therapy client for the past 3 years. I have found it incredibly helpful for targeting traumatic memories, reducing negative core beliefs like "I am not good enough" and generally being able to reduce anxiety in daily functioning. If I do decide that using EMDR would be a good fit there is a special protocol to teach clients and I require a commitment of at least 8-10 sessions using this treatment before switching to a different approach.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have been trained in CBT methods and find it helpful for challenging negative thought patterns, increasing awareness of thoughts/emotions/behaviors and learning how to improve functioning in clear, actionable ways.
