Valeria Dalmau
I received my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University and have extensive experience working with individuals facing a variety of mental health and life challenges. My approach to therapy is individualized, holistic, and integrative, recognizing that each person’s experiences and needs are unique.
I have an extensive background in working with mental health and addictions.
I strive to create a safe, supportive, and confidential space where clients feel comfortable being themselves. My goal is to help clients gain a deeper understanding of themselves, create meaningful change, and become a healthier, more balanced, and authentic version of themselves.
First session
Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and for me to learn more about you, your experiences, and what brings you to therapy. I place a strong emphasis on building a trusting therapeutic relationship, as I believe it is one of the most important factors in creating meaningful progress. My goal is to meet you exactly where you are in your journey, while creating a supportive and comfortable space for you to work toward where you want to be.
Strengths
I believe everyone has the ability to grow, create change, and become the person they want to be. One of my strengths is helping clients recognize their own strengths while identifying the barriers that may be keeping them stuck. I take a supportive, collaborative, and nonjudgmental approach, guiding you in exploring your goals and creating realistic steps toward achieving them. I’ll meet you where you are while also encouraging and challenging you when needed, so you can continue moving toward the life you want for yourself.
Ideal clients
I love working with individuals who are ready to take a more active role in their lives and create meaningful change. My ideal client may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, or unsure of what comes next, but has a desire to grow and move forward. I enjoy helping clients better understand themselves, develop healthier coping skills, build confidence, and learn practical ways to navigate life’s challenges. Together, we work toward creating positive changes, reaching personal goals, and building a life that feels more fulfilling and balanced.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a cornerstone of my therapeutic approach. It's a structured, evidence-based form of psychotherapy that focuses on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Through CBT, I help clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns and develop more adaptive ways of thinking and behaving. One common technique is cognitive restructuring, where I help clients recognize and challenge distorted or unhelpful thoughts. This might involve asking questions to examine the evidence for and against a particular belief, or exploring alternative interpretations of a situation. By doing this, clients learn to replace negative thought patterns with more realistic and balanced ones, leading to a shift in their emotional experiences.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Mindfulness-based interventions are another integral component of my therapeutic toolkit. Mindfulness involves paying attention to the present moment, on purpose, and without judgment. It's about cultivating awareness of thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and the surrounding environment. In my practice, I integrate mindfulness techniques into therapy sessions to help clients develop greater self-awareness, emotional regulation skills, and overall well-being.
