Treatment methods
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
ACT focuses on learning to make space for difficult thoughts and emotions rather than learning to eliminate uncomfortable feelings. I use this treatment to help when obstacles affect our value system and to learn to work through discomfort.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT is the focus on identifying the connections between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to better understand our functioning and response to situations and then using that data to help challenge unhelpful patterns.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
DBT is helpful in that it focuses on grounding techniques and builds a skill set to navigate our circumstances. It helps us enhance mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness to better manage our daily stressors and interpersonal relationships.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
A mindfulness approach helps us to narrow in on our reactivity and develop skills to take notice of our automatic reactions, thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations, and learn to sit with them rather than pushing them away. Once we can learn to understand our mind-body connection, we can pause and take time to respond more effectively.
Psychodynamic
Psychodynamic therapy focuses on the unconscious processes and how old patterns may be presenting in current life experiences. By learning how our past is connected to our present, we can help develop a better understanding of our internal experience and make adjustments accordingly.
