New to Grow
Hello, I am a cognitive behavioral therapist with a focus on adults and couples who are experiencing adjustment disorders, depression, grief, anxiety, and trauma. I have recently retired from my role in the psychology department of the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (Maryland's Prison System). Prior to my work with the State of Maryland, I taught psychology to undergraduate students in my hometown of Buffalo, New York.
During our first session, we will mainly concentrate on collecting identifying information and determining how we can work together towards your goals.
I have experience serving in the prison system as well as in the United States Coast Guard, and I take great pride in my dedication to assisting individuals who have faced trauma and dealt with serious mental illnesses,
My ideal clients are those who experience adjustment disorders, face communication challenges in their relationships, and are managing a serious mental illness. I favor a collaborative approach with my clients, focusing on their goals for counseling. Sessions resemble conversations, and I maintain a direct communication style with them. I have worked with clients from diverse backgrounds and prioritize a client-centered approach.
In CBT I link thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, helping my clients identify unhelpful thinking patterns.
I am eclectic in this area and apply multiple methods, but we normally begin with communication.
