Sheila Robinson

LPC (she/her)10 years of experience

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor providing trauma-informed outpatient therapy for adolescents, adults, couples, and families. My work focuses on helping clients understand how past experiences, stress, and relationship patterns influence emotional well-being and daily functioning. I work with individuals navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, and life transitions. In therapy, I aim to help clients gain insight into the patterns affecting their lives while developing practical skills that support emotional regulation and healthier relationships. Sessions are collaborative and focused on identifying goals that are meaningful to the client.

First session

The first session is focused on understanding what has brought you to therapy and what you would like to gain from the process. We will discuss your current concerns, relevant personal history, and any goals you may already have for therapy. During this session, I may ask questions about areas such as relationships, major life experiences, stressors, and emotional or behavioral patterns that are affecting your well-being. This helps establish a clearer picture of the issues you would like to address. We will also discuss how therapy typically works, the approaches that may be helpful for your situation, and what ongoing sessions might focus on. By the end of the first meeting, we will begin identifying initial goals and determine whether the therapeutic approach feels like a good fit for you.

Strengths

My approach to therapy is grounded in trauma-informed care and an understanding of how developmental experiences and nervous system responses shape emotions, behavior, and relationships. I focus on helping clients identify patterns that may be contributing to distress while developing practical strategies to support greater stability and functioning. A key aspect of my work is integrating insight with skill development. Clients are supported in understanding the origins of certain emotional or relational patterns while also learning tools that can be applied in daily life to improve regulation, communication, and decision-making. I also work with multiple relational contexts—including individuals, couples, and families—which allows treatment to consider how interpersonal dynamics influence well-being. This perspective can be particularly useful when addressing relationship difficulties, family conflict, or communication challenges. Overall, my goal is to provide a structured, collaborative therapeutic process that helps clients better understand themselves, strengthen coping strategies, and build healthier patterns in their relationships and daily lives.

Ideal clients

I work best with adolescents, adults, couples, and families who are interested in understanding the underlying patterns that contribute to emotional distress, relationship conflict, or difficulty managing life stressors. Clients who tend to benefit most from my approach often present with concerns such as: - effects of past trauma or difficult life experiences - anxiety or chronic stress - depression or loss of motivation - relationship or communication difficulties - family conflict - major life transitions - difficulty regulating emotions or reactions Many of the people I work with have already spent time thinking about what may be contributing to their current challenges and are open to examining both past experiences and present patterns. Clients who find this approach helpful are typically interested in: - gaining insight into how past experiences influence current behavior and relationships - developing practical strategies for emotional regulation - improving communication and boundaries - strengthening relationships - building more stable and effective coping strategies Therapy is most effective when clients are willing to engage in reflection, discuss difficult experiences, and apply new skills between sessions.
