Karen Harris
Hello, my name is Karen Harris, and I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner committed to helping individuals achieve emotional wellness and balance. I provide comprehensive care that combines medication management with evidence-based psychotherapy techniques, allowing me to address both the biological and psychological aspects of mental health.
I combine evidence-based medication management with practical psychotherapy techniques, so treatment addresses both the mind and body.
My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel understood and empowered, while working together to reduce symptoms, build resilience, and improve your overall quality of life.
First session
In our first session together, you can expect a welcoming and judgment-free space where we focus on getting to know you. I’ll ask questions about your history, current concerns, and goals so I can gain a clear picture of what you’re experiencing. We’ll also discuss your past experiences with treatment, including medications or therapy, and talk about what has or hasn’t worked for you. By the end of our visit, we’ll create an initial plan tailored to your needs, which may include medication management, psychotherapy strategies, or both. My goal is for you to leave the first session feeling heard, supported, and with a clear direction for your care.
Strengths
I combine evidence-based medication management with practical psychotherapy techniques, so treatment addresses both the mind and body. My style is collaborative and supportive. I see clients as partners in their care, not just patients. Many of my clients share that they feel truly listened to, gain a deeper understanding of themselves, and notice real improvements not only in their symptoms but also in their confidence, coping skills, and overall quality of life.
Ideal clients
I am best positioned to serve individuals who are navigating challenges such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders, or difficulty coping with life transitions. I work well with clients who are motivated to improve their mental health, whether through medication management, psychotherapy, or a combination of both, and who value a collaborative, supportive approach. Many of the clients I serve are seeking not only relief from symptoms but also long-term strategies to build resilience, strengthen relationships, and regain a sense of balance and fulfillment in their daily lives.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can be highly effective in the treatment of depression, anxiety, anger management, and many other mental health conditions. The core principles of CBT include: Goal setting: Establishing clear, achievable objectives for treatment. Identifying negative thought patterns: Recognizing automatic, unhelpful thoughts that contribute to emotional distress. Challenging thought processes: Examining and reframing distorted or irrational beliefs. Behavioral experiments: Engaging in real-life activities to test new ways of thinking and behaving.
