Welcome! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Texas and an NBCC National Certified Counselor. I am pursuing my PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision and have specialized training in adolescents, couples, and intimacy. My approach to therapy is grounded in empowerment, where I see you as the catalyst to your healing. I specialize in depression, anxiety, grief, and adjustment issues related to high-risk behaviors, self-harm, women's issues, men's issues, parenting, divorce, intimacy, life transitions, chronic stress and illness, and emotional dysregulation. I do not see adolescents virtually. Adolescents must be seen in person in Waco.
During the first counseling session, we begin by taking a comprehensive history to thoroughly understand your background and the issues you are facing. This includes discussing your personal, relational, and medical history, as well as your current concerns and goals for therapy. This detailed exploration helps identify key focus areas and tailor a treatment plan that addresses your unique needs and objectives.
My greatest strengths as a provider include a commitment to an empowerment-based approach, which motivates clients to make long-lasting changes. My goal is for you to feel in control of your life, choices, and wellness. My specializations and approach provide a space to explore issues impacting your life. Additionally, my background provides a deep understanding of complex psychological and emotional dynamics, enhancing my ability to address diverse needs effectively.
CBT is a powerful technique to help clients challenge and modify negative thought patterns that impact their emotions and behaviors. I also incorporate cognitive restructuring to address distorted thinking and problem-solving techniques to empower clients in managing everyday challenges. By focusing on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, I guide clients toward healthier, more adaptive ways of thinking and acting, fostering long-term emotional well-being.
I use feminist theory to help clients examine how power structures and societal norms shape experiences, both in interpersonal relationships and within the self. By exploring how gender, race, and other identities influence dynamics of power and oppression, I help clients become more aware of these forces and work toward empowering themselves to challenge inequality, redefine their roles, and develop a stronger sense of agency and autonomy.
I use reality therapy and choice theory to empower clients by helping them recognize that they have control over their actions and choices. By focusing on present behaviors and emphasizing personal responsibility, I guide clients to understand how their decisions shape their current reality, encouraging them to make more effective choices that align with their goals and values, fostering a sense of empowerment and autonomy.
