(she/her)
Hello! My name is Courtney Tharp and I am a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. I have experience working with individuals of all ages, but have primarily focused on treating children and adolescents. I also have a strong passion for helping new parents and families, and am certified in perinatal mental health. I completed both my undergraduate and graduate nursing degrees from Indiana University (go Hoosiers!) and am a member of the Coalition of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses of Indiana (CAPNI). My goal is to work collaboratively with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that supports your mental health and overall well-being. Whether you're navigating a new diagnosis or seeking adjustments to your current treatment, I am here to offer guidance, support, and expertise in finding the most effective medication solutions for your unique needs.
In the first appointment, you can expect a warm, supportive, and collaborative environment focused on understanding your concerns and goals. I’ll gather a comprehensive history, including emotional, behavioral, and developmental background, to better understand your unique needs. This session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, discuss treatment options, and begin building a trusting therapeutic relationship. Together, we’ll create a personalized plan to guide the next steps in your care.
My treatment approach is unique because it blends specialized training in perinatal mental health with extensive experience working with children and adolescents, allowing me to support individuals and families across critical stages of development. Coupled with a warm, caring personality, I strive to create a safe, empathetic space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to grow.
I have extensive experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, and new parents facing a range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, mood disorders, ADHD, behavioral issues, oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), PTSD, and postpartum issues. My ideal clients are those navigating key life transitions or emotional challenges, where early intervention and support can lead to meaningful symptom relief and improved overall well-being.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) in my psychiatry practice to help patients identify and reframe unhelpful thought patterns that contribute to emotional distress and maladaptive behaviors. CBT is an evidence-based approach that empowers patients to develop healthier coping strategies, improve emotional regulation, and make meaningful changes in their daily lives.
Child Parent Psychotherapy
Child-parent therapy is essential for strengthening the parent-child bond and promoting healthy emotional development in children. By improving communication and attachment within the family system, this therapy supports more stable relationships and better long-term outcomes for both children and caregivers.

My first session with Courtney was great. She started off the session by listening to me and offered insight once I was finished. She never cut me off or made me feel like anything less. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.
