Hello, I'm Megan! I'm a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) who has been practicing for about five years. I received my Masters from the University of North Florida, and have had the absolute pleasure of helping children (6+) and adults in all stages of life. My approach is supportive, collaborative, and tailored to each person's unique needs. When you're facing anxiety, depression, life changes, or just need someone to talk to , I'm here to help you feel heard, understood, and empowered, and offer the occasional bad joke.
In your first counseling session with me, we'll take some time to get to know each other and create a comfortable (virtual) space where you can share what's been on your mind. We'll talk about what brought you in, what you'd like to work on, and begin developing a plan tailored to your goals. This session sets the foundation for our work together and helps guide what future sessions will look like.
As a mental health counselor, one of greatest strengths is my natural acceptance for all people. I create an environment where you will feel genuinely accepted, seen, and valued for who you are. My open-minded, nonjudgmental approach (mixed with my creativity and humor) allows you to explore your thoughts and emotions freely, knowing you are supported unconditionally.
I love working with an array of clients that are ready to engage in the therapeutic process. I have the most experience helping children and adults with anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, depression, and ADHD. When working with children, I enjoy parents and caregivers that are willing to give their children privacy, but are also willing to participate in the occasional session.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy designed to help manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and develop healthy coping strategies. I incorporate DBT into therapy by helping you through its core components - mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness - tailoring each skill to your unique needs and goals.
I use CBT to help you understand how your thoughts, feelings, and actions are connected. We work together to spot unhelpful patterns and find new, healthier ways of thinking and responding. It is a practical, hands-on approach that gives you tools to feel more in control and move toward the changes you want to see.
I use a person-centered approach to create a space where you feel heard, accepted, and understood without judgment. I believe that people have the capacity for growth when they feel safe and supported, so I try to meet you where they are and walk alongside you.
In session, I use psychoeducation to help you better understand what you are going through. I find that when you have that knowledge, it can be very empowering and validating. It's not about overwhelming you with information, but offering insights that can make things click and help you feel more in control of your healing process.
At times I will use SFBT to focus more on where you want to go, rather than spending too much time on what's gone wrong. We'll talk about your strengths, what's already working (even just a little), and how we can build on that to create meaningful change.
