I am a carer-becoming a clinical counselor and a chemical dependency counselor flowed from my desire to help people in distress. I attended Kent State University and obtained my Master's Degree from the University of Akron, specializing in Marital and Family Therapy. I have worked to obtain additional certification in Gerontology. I have been practicing in Ohio for over 30 years and enjoy helping clients develop the resources the need to overcome adversity and find peace and satisfaction in their lives.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In my first session, I want to make sure that you feel safe and know that no one has to tell me anything, ever, if they do not want to. I want to gather information that helps me get to know you, and what brought you to counseling at this time in your life. I ask a lot of questions to that end, but I also encourage you to let me know if you want to understand why I am asking what I am asking, to ask questions about my back ground and experience, and to know that you are also free to decide that I am not a good fit for you--I typically say give me three appointments, and if I don't seem to be the right fit, it is OK--I believe one of the most important aspects of successful counseling is feeling safe to say what you need to say, and to feel comfortable with the person that you are saying it to.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My husband tells me that one of the reasons he loves me, is because I care. My experiences growing up with a loved one who suffered with mental illness and my own recovery journey, really have helped me have such great compassion for those I work with. I understand the challenges, and have worked over 30 years to understand what helps to walk and stay on the road of recovery.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy has been the foundation for my work for over 30 years. I integrate the tenets of CBT with client centered therapy, meeting each person where they are in their life journey, developing a greater awareness of feelings, thoughts, and actions, so that each person can begin to more choicefully determine the course of his/her/their actions.

Eclectic

I integrate person centered approaches, with DBT, Family Systems theory, trauma informed practices, and CBT to tailor the interventions to the client's needs. I have a positive focus and believe that the process of overcoming problems of all kinds is best done through collaboration, compassion, and caring support to safely identify, express and manifest one's best version of one's self.
