Hi I'm McKenzie! I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor with several years of experience supporting individuals across the lifespan through depression, anxiety, life transitions, severe and persistent mental illnesses, and other disorders in a variety of different settings such as residential treatment, community mental health programs, school-based programs, and outpatient settings. These experiences have shaped my holistic, trauma-informed approach is care. My approach is warm, collaborative, and non-judgemental , drawing from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I work especially well with teens and adults who feel misunderstood or out of place in more traditional settings. Therapy should be a place where you can show up as your truest self. I create a supportive, non-judgemental space where you can show up as you are. Our work is collaborative and centered on what feels authentic and meaningful to you.
In our first session, you can expect a non-judgemental space where we will take some time to get to know each other and talk about what brought you to therapy, what you're hoping to work on, and what support would feel most helpful. We'll discuss your history and current experiences at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Most importantly, this is a chance to see if we are a good fit and begin creating a therapy space where you can feel safe, accepted, and genuinely yourself.
I bring authenticity, empathy, curiosity, and a genuineness to my sessions. One of my greatest strengths is meeting clients where they are at. I'm warm and approachable while still being honest and direct when it's helpful. I bring a practical, collaborative approach to therapy, helping clients understand patterns, challenge unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, build coping skills, and make changes that feel realistic and meaningful. I also value humor and the human side of therapy. You don't have to have the perfect words or know exactly what you need before coming in. My goal is for you to leave sessions feeling heard, understood, empowered, and a little more equipped to handle whatever life throws your way.
My ideal clients are individuals who are ready to better understand themselves, work through challenges, and create meaningful change in their lives. I enjoy working with clients who may be experiencing anxiety disorders, mood disorders, self-esteem struggles, trauma, relationship concerns, or major life transitions. I especially enjoy working with young adults and teenagers who are navigating the challenges of growing, changing, and figuring out who they are.
I use CBT to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify unhelpful patterns, challenge thoughts that may be keeping you stuck, and develop practical strategies you can use in everyday life.
I use DBT to help clients build skills for managing intense emotions, tolerating distress, improving relationships, and responding to difficult situations more effectively.
My trauma informed approach means that I prioritize safety, trust, choice, and collaboration. We'll move at a pace that feels comfortable while building understanding and skills without forcing you to revisit experiences before you are ready.
I use an eclectic approach to therapy, meaning I draw from different evidence-based therapeutic techniques based on your individual needs, goals, and personality.
