LMHC, 12 years of experience
I am licensed in Florida with over 12 years of therapeutic experience. I've spent most of my career in the non-profit arena so I've worked with a variety of people, with a wide range of mental health issues, in various types of settings. The majority of my time has been spent working with trauma survivors and those with depression and/or anxiety disorders. I utilize an eclectic mix of theories to help clients & my therapeutic approach reflects that. I primarily use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) but sometimes another approach (DBT, MI,etc.) is more appropriate. I am also qualified to offer EMDR to my clients. I meet my clients where they are & work to build rapport. I provide active listening in a supportive, non-judgmental, & empathic environment so clients can address their issues & concerns; while also being able to challenge them when appropriate. I've found that I'm passionate about empowering people & helping them become their whole & authentic self. I think it's so rewarding to help people work through difficult situations & offer some hope for the future. If you're ready to get started on this journey together, I encourage you to reach out!
After our first session, you will start focusing more on making progress towards your goals. You might do more talking than I do from this point on, and that's normal! We will discuss big picture goals and specific short term objectives for your work in therapy.
Stress, Anxiety, Relationship issues, Family conflicts, Intimacy-related issues, Parenting issues, Anger management, Self esteem, Bipolar disorder, Coping with life changes, ADHD, Abandonment, Blended Family Issues, Codependency, Coping with Natural or Human-Caused Disaster, Divorce and Separation, Domestic Violence, Family Problems, First Responder Issues, Forgiveness, Guilt and Shame, Infidelity, Life Purpose, Midlife Crisis, Military and Veterans Issues, Post-traumatic Stress, Self-Harm, Self-Love, Sexual Assault and Abuse, Women's Issues, EMDR
My greatest strength as a mental health counselor is my ability to listen, empathize, build rapport, and promote hope in the lives of clients. I have experienced on numerous encounters with clients a shift towards improvement from the very first session just through psychotherapy. I believe in providing psychoeducation and introducing coping skills even from the first session with a client. Another strong point is my knowledge of the cognitive-behavior therapy problem-solving approach for clients with mental health concerns. By using a variety of problem-solving techniques, I can quickly get to the heart of the matter and help my clients to heal at a consistent pace. This strength takes practice and education, and it is an area where I am well-skilled.

Heather was very warm and empowering. She made a big effort to get to know me and validate my thoughts and feelings while getting to the root of some of my problems. She is very kind and sweet.

Heather is the sweetest, she has southern charm and knows how to make you feel better about yourself. She lifts you up and reminds you how strong you are and can be. She sets small goals to focus on in the week and she pays attention to the details in my life. She makes me question how I feel about things when I didn’t spend the time myself figuring that out. And she is a wonderful listener.
