About me

Hi, I'm Hawley Campbell. With over 25 years in nursing, I'm a dual board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, specializing in ADHD and co-occurring conditions. As a graduate of Florida State University's PMHNP program, I offer specialized telehealth treatment and medication management right here in Florida, guiding you towards a life with greater focus, calm, and control."

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During your first session for ADHD, depression, and anxiety, you can expect a comprehensive, collaborative assessment. This initial, often longer, session involves a detailed discussion of your current symptoms, medical, social, and psychiatric history, as well as family background, to fully understand your unique challenges. I will provide initial psychoeducation on how these conditions interact and then collaboratively discuss potential treatment options, including medication management, therapy, and coaching, to set initial recommendations and next steps for your personalized path toward greater focus, calm, and control.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

As a PMHNP, one of my greatest strengths in working with ADHD lies in my ability to provide integrated, holistic, and patient-centered care that combines expert psychopharmacology with skilled psychotherapy and practical coaching, all delivered with a deep understanding of the client's lived experience.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

For young professionals in Florida grappling with the overwhelm of ADHD, anxiety, and depression, I provide specialized telehealth care. My comprehensive approach combines medication management, therapy, and coaching to equip you with the tools to cultivate greater focus, calm, and control amidst your busy life. I also deeply enjoy working with adolescents with ADHD, finding it incredibly rewarding to see them thrive and reach their full potential.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for an individual with ADHD involves addressing both the cognitive distortions (thoughts) that arise from ADHD symptoms and developing behavioral strategies to manage the challenges. Examples of CBT for ADHD often integrate cognitive work (challenging negative thoughts about ADHD symptoms and abilities) with practical, structured behavioral interventions that account for the unique challenges of executive dysfunction. As a PMHNP, I would tailor these assessments, constantly evaluating the patient's specific symptoms, strengths, and goals.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing is incredibly valuable for ADHD individuals because it helps them tap into their reasons for change, which is crucial when dealing with a condition that often involves ambivalence, executive function challenges, and a history of feeling "told what to do." As a PMHNP, I can utilize motivational interviewing to enhance an individual's intrinsic motivation to engage in behavioral changes, adhere to medication, or participate in therapy.

Humanistic

Humanistic therapy, or Person-Centered Therapy, can be a powerful approach for treating individuals with ADHD, even though it doesn't directly target symptoms like inattention or hyperactivity in the same way as CBT or medication. Instead, it focuses on the profound emotional and self-esteem challenges that often accompany ADHD, helping patients develop a stronger sense of self-worth and agency. For example, I would use a non-judgmental stance, conveying acceptance of the individual, regardless of their past behaviors or current challenges. I would avoid language that implies blame or inadequacy because individuals with ADHD often carry a heavy burden of shame, frustration, and self-blame due to a lifetime of perceived failures, criticisms, and struggles with tasks that seem easy for others. They may internalize negative labels, such as "unmotivated" or "lazy." The core principles of humanistic therapy include unconditional positive regard, which involves accepting and valuing the individual without judgment, fostering empathy, and providing a deep understanding while also reflecting on the patient's feelings and experiences. Lastly, congruence, being genuine or authentic and transparent in the therapeutic relationship
