(she/her)
Hello! I’m Hawley, and I help people move from feeling scattered and overwhelmed to living with focus, calm, and control. With over 25 years of experience across Women’s Health, Obstetrics, and Emergency Care, I don’t just treat symptoms—I understand the complex intersection of your physical health and mental well-being. Whether you are a young professional navigating the fast-paced demands of Florida or DC, a parent managing the "mental load," or an adolescent struggling to unlock your potential, I am here to help. I specialize in ADHD, Perinatal Psychiatry (moms and moms-to-be), and Anxiety. My mission is to empower you with a personalized toolkit of evidence-based medication management and practical coaching.
Think of our first meeting as a deep-dive discovery session. We’ll spend 60 minutes exploring your story—your medical history, current stressors, and long-term goals. You won't just get a prescription; you'll get psychoeducation. We will discuss exactly how your brain works and collaboratively build a roadmap that includes medication, therapy, or executive function coaching.
As a dedicated Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), I focus on transforming the lives of individuals affected by ADHD, anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. My approach is holistic, integrated, and centered on the individual, ensuring that each client receives the personalized care they deserve. By effectively combining advanced psychopharmacology with expert psychotherapy and practical coaching, I address the complexities of each client's unique experiences. This unwavering commitment to tailored care empowers my clients to achieve profound, lasting change and a higher quality of life.
For young professionals in Florida and the District of Columbia dealing with ADHD, anxiety, and depression, I offer specialized telehealth care. My holistic approach combines medication management, therapy, and coaching to equip you with practical tools that foster greater focus, calmness, and control in your dynamic life. Additionally, I take great pride in supporting adolescents with ADHD, as it is incredibly rewarding to witness their growth and help them unlock their full potential. Together, we can create a brighter and more fulfilling future.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for an individual with ADHD involves addressing both the cognitive distortions (thoughts) that arise from ADHD symptoms and developing behavioral strategies to manage the challenges. Examples of CBT for ADHD often integrate cognitive work (challenging negative thoughts about ADHD symptoms and abilities) with practical, structured behavioral interventions that account for the unique challenges of executive dysfunction. As a PMHNP, I would tailor these assessments, constantly evaluating the patient's specific symptoms, strengths, and goals.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing is incredibly valuable for ADHD individuals because it helps them tap into their reasons for change, which is crucial when dealing with a condition that often involves ambivalence, executive function challenges, and a history of feeling "told what to do." As a PMHNP, I can utilize motivational interviewing to enhance an individual's intrinsic motivation to engage in behavioral changes, adhere to medication, or participate in therapy.
Humanistic
Humanistic therapy, or Person-Centered Therapy, can be a powerful approach for treating individuals with ADHD, even though it doesn't directly target symptoms like inattention or hyperactivity in the same way as CBT or medication. Instead, it focuses on the profound emotional and self-esteem challenges that often accompany ADHD, helping patients develop a stronger sense of self-worth and agency. For example, I would use a non-judgmental stance, conveying acceptance of the individual, regardless of their past behaviors or current challenges. I would avoid language that implies blame or inadequacy because individuals with ADHD often carry a heavy burden of shame, frustration, and self-blame due to a lifetime of perceived failures, criticisms, and struggles with tasks that seem easy for others. They may internalize negative labels, such as "unmotivated" or "lazy." The core principles of humanistic therapy include unconditional positive regard, which involves accepting and valuing the individual without judgment, fostering empathy, and providing a deep understanding while also reflecting on the patient's feelings and experiences. Lastly, congruence, being genuine or authentic and transparent in the therapeutic relationship
