Hello, I’m Monica Freeman-Bennefield, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. I provide a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where individuals can explore life’s challenges with honesty, clarity, and hope. My approach blends person-centered care, evidence-based strategies, and faith-based principles for those who desire it, allowing for holistic support of the mind, body, and spirit. I work collaboratively with clients to better understand patterns, strengthen emotional awareness, and develop practical tools for managing anxiety, depression, stress, grief, and life transitions. I am passionate about helping clients build emotional resilience, strengthen coping skills, and experience meaningful, sustainable growth that extends beyond the therapy room.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another in a safe and supportive environment. We will discuss what brings you to therapy, review your current concerns, and explore any relevant background information that may help guide treatment. You are welcome to share at your own pace — there is no pressure to have everything figured out. I will also explain how I work, answer any questions you may have, and collaborate with you to begin identifying goals for therapy. My priority is that you feel heard, respected, and comfortable as we begin this journey.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

One of my greatest strengths is my ability to create a safe, calm, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel genuinely heard and respected. I combine compassionate presence with practical, evidence-based tools to help clients move beyond simply talking about problems and toward meaningful change. Clients often appreciate my balanced approach — warm and supportive, yet structured and goal-oriented. I help individuals build emotional insight, challenge unhelpful thought patterns, strengthen coping skills, and develop healthy boundaries that lead to lasting progress.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am best positioned to serve individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief, relationship stress, and emotional overwhelm. Many of my clients are high-functioning, responsible individuals who are used to being strong for others but are seeking a safe space to process their own needs. I work well with those who are motivated for growth and open to learning practical coping skills while developing deeper self-awareness and emotional resilience.

My treatment methods

Faith based therapy

As a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), I integrate faith-based counseling with evidence-based clinical practices to support holistic healing — mind, body, and spirit. My approach is grounded in sound psychological principles while honoring a client’s Christian faith, values, and spiritual worldview when desired. I have experience working with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship challenges, and life transitions. In my practice, I thoughtfully incorporate scripture reflection, prayer (when requested), spiritual identity work, and faith-centered cognitive reframing alongside evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and trauma-informed care. Faith-based counseling in my work is never imposed; it is client-led. I create a safe and respectful environment where clients can explore emotional struggles without feeling judged or spiritually inadequate. I help clients challenge unhelpful thought patterns, strengthen coping skills, and align their healing journey with their spiritual beliefs. My goal is to support clients in developing emotional resilience, healthy boundaries, renewed thinking, and a deeper sense of peace — integrating clinical insight with spiritual growth.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

As a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), I utilize Person-Centered Therapy as a foundational approach in my clinical work. This method emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness within the therapeutic relationship. I believe that when clients feel deeply heard, respected, and accepted, meaningful change can occur. In my practice, I create a safe, nonjudgmental environment where clients are empowered to explore their thoughts, emotions, and life experiences at their own pace. Rather than directing or prescribing solutions, I collaborate with clients to help them access their own inner strengths, values, and insight. Person-Centered Therapy allows clients to build self-awareness, strengthen self-trust, and develop confidence in their ability to navigate challenges. I integrate reflective listening, validation, and compassionate presence to support clients in processing anxiety, depression, relationship stress, grief, and life transitions. While Person-Centered principles guide the therapeutic relationship, I may also incorporate evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Motivational Interviewing when clinically appropriate — always maintaining respect for the client’s autonomy and goals.
