About me

***Please do not schedule an appointment with me if you are actively suicidal with a plan, or if there have been any recent suicide attempts. Getting stabilized in a higher level of care (acute hospitalization or residential treatment) will need to be completed prior to your first outpatient appointment with me.*** I'm Matt Lebron, a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner who can help you with psychotropic medication management and brief psychotherapeutic interventions. I specialize in working with individuals facing serious mental illness, borderline personality disorder, sexual addiction, and LGBTQIA+ concerns. The clients I serve are often navigating complex and challenging circumstances, and come to me seeking understanding, support, empathy, and compassion. I believe that feeling better can start from the very first session, and that's my intention with everyone I meet. My goal is to be a dedicated partner in your journey toward mental wellness, providing evidence-based care, a safe and affirming space, and unwavering support to help you achieve your goals and live a more fulfilling life.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session together, you will have an opportunity to tell me exactly why you are seeking care without the fear of being misunderstood, judged, or chastised. Your story will give me a broad picture of you and your life, and the comprehensive list of questions that I ask you afterward will fill in any gaps. Before the end of the session, you will feel like you made a new friend.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I believe that my personal and professional experiences with mental illness have shaped me into the accepting, empathic, and compassionate provider that I am today. With me, you will only ever find empathy and genuine concern for your well-being, no matter who you are or what you've done. I do not indulge in prejudice, discrimination, hate, or stigmatizing behaviors because those attributes are incompatible with my personality, ideals, and philosophies. We haven't met yet, but I already care about you and want you to thrive.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I have the most experience treating people suffering from bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, borderline personality disorder, ADHD, alcohol use disorder, sex addiction, schizophrenia, and OCD. Having worked in several acute psychiatric hospitals, I am also comfortable treating clients who experience acute or chronic suicidality, hallucinations, and paranoia.

My treatment methods

Motivational Interviewing

I learned Motivational Interviewing through multiple trainings and conferences with the American Psychiatric Nurses Association. Each session with clients has an overtone of Motivational Interviewing because I do my best to ensure they are encouraged to engage in treatment adherence and to accomplish each goal that will help them to live well. I have found that clients who are hopeless or unmotivated to do what they know they need to do benefit from this method tremendously.

Existential

I graduated from Stetson University after majoring in Psychology and Philosophy. It was the existential psychologists that initially interested me in philosophy, and existentialism turned out to be my calling all along. I draw from the principles of existentialism is my psychotherapeutic interactions and have found that people are a great deal more equipped to deal with life when they are motivated by meaning and achievement.

Compassion Focused

I pride myself on being empathetic and compassionate toward every client I encounter. My goal is that the first thing you notice about me is how well I listen, how easy it is to tell me distressing issues, and the fact that there is not an ounce of judgment in our interactions. No matter what you are going through, you will find compassion in each of our interactions.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I draw from the principles of DBT to most appropriately treat borderline personality disorder, and any other client who is often overwhelmed by their emotions. Clients engaging in DBT-inspired therapy will benefit from keeping a mood diary, discussing how to regulate their emotions, practicing mindfulness, sharing examples of distress intolerance in their lives, and becoming more effective in their interpersonal relationships. I very much enjoy working with clients who have borderline personality disorder, but I also believe that everyone can benefit from the principles and practices of DBT.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

While the medical model has motivated psychiatric providers to attempt to eliminate all symptoms of mental illness, that is rarely possible. Learning the principles of ACT helped me to understand that most clients will never be symptom-free, whether they are dealing with depression, anxiety, OCD, emotional dysregulation, or chronic pain. After helping clients to minimize their symptoms as much as possible, I like to use what I learned from ACT to help clients accept the reality of their conditions, ultimately resulting in better coping and eventual thriving.
