Tiffany Washington
Welcome! I'm Tiffany Washington, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care to adults. I work collaboratively with each patient to understand their unique experiences, develop individualized treatment plans, and create a supportive, judgment-free environment where they feel heard and respected. I treat a range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, trauma-related conditions, and life transitions. My approach combines thoughtful medication management with education and supportive therapy, with the goal of helping patients achieve meaningful, lasting improvements in their mental health and overall quality of life.
First session
During your first appointment, I will take time to get to know you and discuss what brings you to treatment. I'll ask about your current symptoms, mental health history, medical history, family mental health history, current and past medications, lifestyle, and the goals you hope to achieve. This comprehensive evaluation helps me develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your individual needs. My approach is collaborative and judgment-free. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions, share any concerns, and actively participate in decisions about your care. If medication is appropriate, we'll discuss the potential benefits, risks, side effects, and available treatment options so you can make an informed decision. My goal is for you to leave your first session feeling heard, understood, and with a clear plan for moving forward.
Strengths
I believe that effective psychiatric care begins with listening. I strive to create a welcoming, nonjudgmental environment where you feel comfortable sharing your experiences and concerns. My approach is thoughtful, collaborative, and evidence-based, and I take the time to understand the whole person, not just their symptoms. I recognize that each person's experiences, strengths, and challenges are unique, so I develop personalized treatment plans grounded in evidence-based care. I place a strong emphasis on patient education so you can better understand your diagnosis, treatment options, and the role of medication in your care. My goal is to help you feel informed, empowered, and actively involved in decisions about your mental health while building a trusting therapeutic relationship focused on long-term wellness.
Ideal clients
I work with adults who are seeking compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care for a variety of mental health concerns. I help individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, trauma-related conditions, stress, and life transitions. Whether you are seeking care for the first time or looking for a fresh perspective on your current treatment, I strive to meet you where you are. My ideal clients are motivated to better understand their mental health and are open to working collaboratively to achieve their goals. Together, we'll develop a personalized treatment plan that may include medication management, education, supportive therapy, and practical strategies to help improve your symptoms, daily functioning, and overall quality of life. I also enjoy working with adults who are navigating the emotional impact of chronic medical conditions. I recognize the important connection between physical and mental health and strive to provide care that considers the whole person.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques into medication management visits to help clients better understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify unhelpful thinking patterns, develop healthier coping strategies, and explore practical skills to manage symptoms of anxiety, depression, stress, and other mental health concerns. CBT is used alongside evidence-based medication management to support meaningful, long-term improvement in overall functioning and well-being.
Supportive
I incorporate supportive therapy into medication management visits by providing a safe, nonjudgmental space to discuss current challenges, process emotions, and strengthen healthy coping skills. My goal is to help clients build resilience, improve problem-solving, and feel supported while working toward their treatment goals and overall emotional well-being.
Psychoeducation
I believe that understanding your mental health is an important part of recovery. I provide education about diagnoses, treatment options, medications, potential side effects, lifestyle factors, and coping strategies so you can make informed decisions and actively participate in your care. My goal is to empower you with the knowledge and confidence to support your long-term mental health.
Motivational Interviewing
I use motivational interviewing techniques to help clients explore their goals, strengthen motivation for change, and overcome barriers to treatment. Through open, collaborative conversations, I support clients in making informed decisions, building confidence, and taking meaningful steps toward improved mental health and overall well-being.
