New to Grow
Are you feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, stress, or relationship challenges? Many individuals find themselves stuck despite wanting meaningful change, especially when emotional distress begins to interfere with daily functioning and overall well-being. Therapy offers a structured and supportive space to better understand these challenges and develop effective coping strategies. Seeking professional support is an important first step, and meaningful change occurs through intentional work both in and outside the therapy setting. My name is Mick Desrameaux, LMHC, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with extensive experience treating anxiety disorders, depression, trauma-related symptoms, substance use concerns, and co-occurring mental health conditions. I work collaboratively with clients to increase self-awareness, emotional regulation, and insight into patterns that affect relationships and personal growth. My therapeutic approach is grounded in evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, and motivational interviewing. I provide a safe, confidential, and nonjudgmental therapy environment where clients feel respected and supported. My goal is to help individuals feel empowered, build healthier relationships, and develop practical skills for long-term emotional stability. I am committed to delivering client-centered, ethical, and culturally responsive mental health counseling, supporting clients as they move toward greater balance, resilience, and overall mental wellness.
In the first session, clients can expect a welcoming, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where the focus is on understanding who they are and what brings them to therapy. I prioritize helping clients feel safe, heard, and respected, especially since starting therapy can feel overwhelming or uncertain. There is no pressure to share more than they’re ready for. We’ll spend time discussing current concerns, symptoms, and stressors, as well as relevant background information that helps me understand the client’s experiences more fully. I also review treatment goals, explain how therapy works, and clarify expectations so clients know what the process will look like moving forward. I assess strengths, coping patterns, and immediate needs, including safety or crisis concerns when appropriate, while remaining collaborative and transparent throughout the session. I may offer initial feedback, psychoeducation, or simple grounding or coping strategies that clients can begin using right away. By the end of the session, clients can expect to have a clearer understanding of their challenges, an initial sense of direction for treatment, and a plan for next steps. My goal is for clients to leave feeling supported, informed, and hopeful about the work ahead.
My approach to therapy is client-centered, collaborative, and trauma-informed, with a strong emphasis on creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment. I work to ensure clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to actively engage in their treatment process. I believe meaningful and lasting change occurs when individuals gain insight into their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while developing practical skills they can apply in daily life beyond the therapy session. I integrate evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and mindfulness-based interventions. Treatment is tailored to each client’s unique needs, diagnoses, and readiness for change. My clinical focus includes emotional regulation, distress tolerance, relapse prevention, anxiety and depression management, trauma recovery, and strengthening coping strategies, particularly for individuals experiencing co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. I also have experience supporting men’s mental health, relationship challenges, and life stressors that impact emotional well-being. I utilize a strengths-based, goal-oriented framework that emphasizes resilience while addressing patterns that contribute to emotional distress, maladaptive behaviors, or impaired functioning. Treatment planning is collaborative and regularly reviewed to ensure goals remain clinically appropriate, meaningful, and aligned with the client’s progress. My overall goal is to help clients build self-awareness, emotional stability, and confidence in their ability to manage challenges, maintain recovery, and improve overall quality of life both during treatment and long after therapy concludes.
My ideal clients are adolescents (ages 13+) through older adults (up to age 65), including both men and women, as well as individuals and couples seeking support. I am best positioned to serve clients experiencing a range of mental health and behavioral health concerns, including mood disorders, anxiety, trauma-related symptoms, substance use challenges, and co-occurring disorders. I also work effectively with individuals navigating life transitions, relationship difficulties, emotional dysregulation, and stress-related concerns. I particularly support clients who are motivated to build insight, develop healthier coping strategies, and actively engage in the therapeutic process. Many of my clients benefit from structure, skill-building, and a goal-oriented approach to treatment that incorporates evidence-based modalities and practical tools for managing symptoms and improving daily functioning. In couples work, I support partners who are experiencing communication breakdowns, trust issues, emotional disconnection, or ongoing conflict, and who are willing to participate in improving relational patterns and strengthening connection. Across all populations, I aim to provide a collaborative, supportive, and clinically grounded environment that promotes stability, growth, and long-term recovery.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to provide clients with practical, evidence-based tools to manage anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, and life stressors. I help clients identify unhelpful beliefs and behavioral patterns, challenge distorted thinking, strengthen emotional regulation, and develop coping strategies that can be applied in everyday life. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to each client's unique needs and goals.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients strengthen emotional regulation, increase distress tolerance, improve interpersonal effectiveness, and cultivate mindfulness. DBT provides practical, evidence-based skills that support individuals in managing anxiety, mood fluctuations, trauma responses, impulsive behaviors, and relationship challenges. My approach emphasizes balancing acceptance of where clients are in the present moment while empowering them to make meaningful changes aligned with their goals and values.
Motivational Interviewing
I utilize Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help clients navigate uncertainty and strengthen their readiness for change. Rather than telling clients what they "should" do, I work collaboratively to explore their values, identify barriers, highlight personal strengths, and resolve ambivalence. This approach empowers clients to make meaningful, self-directed changes related to mental health, substance use, relationships, health behaviors, and overall well-being.
Psychoeducation
I incorporate psychoeducation throughout treatment to help clients gain a deeper understanding of their mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, and relationship dynamics. I provide practical information about how symptoms develop and are maintained while teaching evidence-based coping strategies and skills. My goal is to empower clients with knowledge, increase self-awareness, reduce shame, and help them become active participants in their own growth and recovery.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
I incorporate mindfulness-based therapy to help clients develop greater awareness of their thoughts, emotions, and bodily experiences while responding to them with curiosity rather than judgment. Through techniques such as grounding exercises, mindful breathing, and present-moment awareness, clients learn to reduce anxiety, improve emotional regulation, manage stress, and increase resilience. My goal is to help clients feel more connected to themselves, navigate difficult experiences with greater ease, and develop a deeper sense of calm and acceptance.
