Hi! I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Supervisor (LPCC-S) based out of northeast Ohio. I received my bachelors degree in Psychology from Kent State University and my masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy/Counseling from The University of Akron. I have over ten years of experience helping individual clients, couples, families, and groups of clients work on their presenting concerns and help them to feel like more empowered versions of themselves.
In the first session together, I see two purposes in that session. First, you help teach me about you, your life, your personality and interests, as well as helping me understand what made therapy feel necessary. Second, this session, I also imagine, is an interview with me where you are the boss determining if you want to hire me to help you meet your goals. In order for therapy to work, I believe that you need to feel comfortable being open with the person you are talking to and feel confident that the therapist can help you. You are very much in charge of determining if I am the right fit for you.
Having ten years of experience working in an intensive and acute care setting, I have developed skills to get us moving quickly and we build rapport with one another from the start. I am transparent in my approach to therapy and will talk you through what we are doing so that you know I am on your team.
My favorite potential clients to work with are the clients who are motivated to make changes happen in their lives. Whether working individually, seeing a couple, doing family therapy, or anything in between, I am here to help you learn the tools that can bring about relief and create meaningful and lasting change for you.
Courtney Hout offers therapy covered by Buckeye Health Plan, Buckeye Health Plan (Managed Medicaid), CareSource - Medicaid, Medicaid - Buckeye Health Plan and UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Ohio.
When exploring stress and ability to make meaningful change, I like to explore the relationship between thoughts, feelings, actions, and physical sensations. Catching and challenging the validity of cognitive distortions is helpful in empowering clients to take control of their thinking patterns.
My background and training is in marriage and family therapy. In training in this treatment modality, I think about the family as a system and in making meaningful changes in a family, it is crucial to include the system in making and supporting these changes.
Relationships can be a great asset in mental wellness, relationships can also be a catalyst in creating stress. I am comfortable working with couples to help them navigate their relationship, identify their goals, explore barriers that are keeping them from achieving their goals, and making a treatment plan to meet you where you are and help you move towards your relationship goals.
