Dr. Rana J. Clarizio is a Doctor of Nursing Practice and board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with more than 30 years of healthcare experience. She provides sophisticated, evidence-based psychiatric care through an integrative approach that considers emotional well-being, physical health, lifestyle, and each patient’s individual goals. As a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist with expertise in metabolic health, weight management, and pharmacogenomic-guided treatment, she is uniquely equipped to develop highly personalized treatment protocols that support both mental and physical wellness.
First session
During your first session, we will establish care through a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation focused on understanding your current concerns, medical and psychiatric history, medications, lifestyle, and treatment goals. We will identify the symptoms that are most prevalent and disruptive, such as anxiety, depression, mood changes, difficulty concentrating, sleep problems, trauma-related symptoms, or changes in appetite and functioning. Together, we will develop a thoughtful, individualized treatment plan designed to support both your emotional and physical well-being.
Strengths
I bring warmth, empathy, and extensive clinical experience to every session, creating a supportive environment where patients feel heard, respected, and understood. My approach is thoughtful, collaborative, and highly individualized, combining evidence-based psychiatric care with an integrative understanding of physical health, lifestyle, and emotional well-being. When clinically appropriate, I also utilize pharmacogenomic testing to help guide medication decisions and develop more personalized treatment plans.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who wants to feel genuinely heard, respected, and understood. I work best with individuals who value a warm, collaborative relationship and want care that considers their personal experiences, culture, physical health, and individual goals. You do not need to have everything figured out before beginning—we can work together to create a thoughtful plan that feels comfortable, supportive, and right for you.
Treatment methods
Compassion-Focused
I use compassion-based treatment by creating a safe, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment where patients feel genuinely heard and understood. I take time to understand each person’s experiences, symptoms, strengths, and goals, while helping them develop greater self-awareness and self-compassion. My approach combines empathy with evidence-based psychiatric care so that treatment feels collaborative, individualized, and supportive rather than rushed or impersonal.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I incorporate principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help patients recognize how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence one another. Together, we identify unhelpful thinking patterns, develop healthier coping strategies, and build practical skills that can improve mood, reduce anxiety, and support lasting behavioral change. I use CBT in a compassionate and collaborative way, tailoring each session to the patient’s individual needs, strengths, and treatment goals.
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
Coming from a mixed cultural background, I also understand how isolating it can feel when clinicians overlook cultural values, family expectations, communication styles, and lived experiences. I provide culturally responsive care that respects each patient’s identity, traditions, and personal perspective, ensuring treatment feels compassionate, individualized, and genuinely understood.
