(she/her)
My name is Dr. Sheila Kendrick-Woodson. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I provide telehealth counseling services to clients in the state of Georgia. I have worked in the counseling field for over 20 years, providing mental health services to children, adolescents, and their families. In addition to my work in professional counseling, I work full-time as a school counselor and am knowledgeable about school-related issues.
Our first session will be a time for us to connect and get acquainted. We will complete the initial assessment, which includes gathering background information and establishing treatment goals. I will explain how EMDR is implemented and offer a brief demonstration. I desire that you be fully aware of how this therapy model works and what it has to offer so that you can decide if it is right for you. Our session will also include questions and answers. This will be a time for you to share anything that you would like to share and to ask questions.
I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for adults who may be dealing with symptoms associated with anxiety, depression, and PTSD, such as obsessive-compulsive behaviors, dissociative behaviors, panic disorder, and agoraphobia. My communication style is calm, nonjudgmental, empathetic, and personable. Listening is an important part of my communication style. I want my clients to feel heard and validated as they entrust me with their personal stories and struggles.
I specifically work with adults who are experiencing anxiety and depression and have experienced trauma, using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. This includes military veterans struggling with PTSD symptoms. However, I also use other therapy models such as Positive Psychology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy.

EMDR
Through this model, I guide the client in accessing memories of the onset of anxiety and depression and the traumatic event in very specific ways, which in turn helps them, through bilateral stimulation, reprocess what they remember from the negative event and repairs the mental injury from that memory.
