Hi, I'm Emily! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in North Carolina. My approach to therapy is grounded in authenticity, and I believe that healing starts with creating a space where you can show up as your full, unfiltered self. I believe that every person has the capacity for growth, and my role is to help you tap into that inner wisdom in order to move toward positive change.
In our first session, my focus will be on building rapport and connection to ensure that you feel comfortable and understood. I believe that the foundation of a successful therapeutic relationship is trust, and it’s important that we both feel we’re a good fit for each other. During this initial session, we’ll take time to get to know each other and explore what brought you to therapy. I’ll ask questions to understand your background, history, and current challenges, which will help me learn more about your unique experiences and perspective. We’ll also discuss your goals for therapy and what you hope to achieve in our work together.
I value authenticity, kindness, humor, and direct communication. I believe that the most meaningful growth happens when we feel safe to be ourselves, and I work hard to create an environment where you can feel seen, heard, and respected. I bring a kind and direct communication style to my therapeutic work. I believe that being clear and straightforward can be a powerful tool for growth. If something feels important or needs attention, I’ll address it with honesty, but always in a respectful and thoughtful way. This approach ensures that we can have productive and meaningful conversations that lead to real progress in your journey.
I have 6 years of experience working with clients with diverse backgrounds and challenges. I enjoy working with clients with a broad range of concerns including life transitions, identity formation, relationship challenges, and self-image-related concerns. I have worked with clients with a broad range of diagnoses including trauma-related diagnoses, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, substance use disorders, and psychosis-related concerns.
I believe you are the expert on your own life, so I’m here to listen, understand, and offer support as you work toward desired changes at the pace that is right for you.
I use an integrative approach to my therapeutic work, drawing on techniques from varying treatment modalities to find what works best for different clients in order to meet individual client needs.
I work to help clients identify and connect with their values in order to take committed action toward meaningful change.
I use CBT techniques to help encourage helpful thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in clients I work with.
I draw on DBT techniques often to help clients with interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and mindfulness skills.
