About me

I’m Crystal Scott, a warm, compassionate, and down-to-earth therapist who believes therapy should feel supportive, honest, practical, and deeply human. I work with adults, adolescents, couples, and families who may be navigating anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, grief, trauma, life transitions, low self-esteem, burnout, emotional overwhelm, or the feeling of being stuck in patterns they no longer want to repeat. My approach is collaborative, culturally responsive, and tailored to the unique needs of each client. I combine evidence-based techniques with genuine conversation, reflection, encouragement, humor when appropriate, and practical tools that can be used in everyday life. I strive to create a space where you can feel seen, heard, respected, and safe enough to be honest about what is really going on. At the same time, I will gently challenge you to recognize patterns, strengthen boundaries, build confidence, improve communication, and make choices that better reflect the life you want to create. I understand that beginning therapy can feel vulnerable, especially if you are used to carrying everything on your own, being the strong one, or putting everyone else’s needs before your own. You do not have to arrive with the perfect words or a clear plan. We can slow things down, make sense of what you are experiencing, and identify realistic steps forward together. My ideal client is someone who is ready for support, insight, and meaningful change, even if they are unsure where to begin. Whether you are healing from a painful experience, adjusting to a major change, rebuilding trust, managing difficult emotions, or learning to reconnect with yourself, I will meet you with empathy, patience, authenticity, and respect. My goal is to help you feel more grounded, empowered, and confident in your ability to move forward.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin creating a space where you feel comfortable, supported, and understood. You do not need to arrive with everything figured out or know exactly where to begin. I will guide the conversation with thoughtful questions while allowing you to share at a pace that feels manageable for you. We will talk about what brought you to therapy, what you have been experiencing, and what you would like to be different in your life. I may ask about your personal history, relationships, current stressors, strengths, coping strategies, and any previous experiences with therapy. You are always welcome to ask questions, request clarification, or let me know when you are not ready to discuss something. Together, we will begin identifying your goals and discussing an approach that fits your needs, personality, circumstances, and preferences. I want therapy to feel collaborative rather than like something being done to you. Your voice, comfort, and feedback will remain important throughout the process. You can expect warmth, honesty, compassion, and a judgment-free environment. I may also offer an initial observation, coping strategy, reflection, or practical step you can begin using after our session. While we may not address everything in one meeting, my goal is for you to leave feeling heard, more hopeful, and clearer about how we can move forward together. Most importantly, the first session is not a test or a commitment to share your entire story. It is simply the beginning of building trust, understanding your needs, and deciding whether I feel like the right therapist to support you.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

One of the greatest strengths I bring to therapy is my ability to meet clients where they are while still helping them move toward where they want to be. I am a blend of both: I can sit quietly, hold space, and allow you to process difficult emotions without rushing you, but I can also respectfully challenge you when I notice avoidance, self-defeating patterns, unhealthy relationship dynamics, or beliefs that may be keeping you stuck. My approach stands out because I am warm, genuine, observant, and practical. I listen not only to what you say, but also to the emotions, patterns, strengths, and needs beneath your words. I believe clients deserve more than someone who simply nods and listens. You can expect thoughtful questions, honest feedback, encouragement, psychoeducation, and tools you can realistically apply between sessions. I also value humor and authenticity when appropriate because healing does not always have to feel heavy. My personal and professional experiences have taught me that life can be complicated, that people often carry more than others realize, and that growth is rarely a straight line. I understand the pressure of balancing multiple responsibilities, navigating change, caring for others, managing uncertainty, and trying to remain strong while also needing support yourself. These experiences help me approach clients with humility, compassion, patience, and without judgment. I will celebrate your progress, remind you of your strengths, and help you recognize the parts of yourself you may have overlooked. I will not pressure you to move faster than you are ready, but I also will not allow fear or self-doubt to make every decision for you. My goal is to create a therapeutic relationship where you feel safe enough to be vulnerable, supported enough to heal, and empowered enough to make meaningful changes.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal client may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally exhausted, disconnected from themselves, or stuck in patterns they are ready to understand and change. They may be navigating relationship difficulties, grief, trauma, major life transitions, family stress, burnout, low self-esteem, or the pressure of always having to be the strong one. I work well with clients who want a therapist who is compassionate and patient, but also engaged, honest, and willing to gently challenge them. You do not need to arrive feeling completely ready, motivated, or certain about your goals. You may simply know that something in your life no longer feels healthy, fulfilling, or sustainable—and that you are ready for support in figuring out what comes next. My ideal client is open to reflection and willing to practice new ways of thinking, communicating, coping, and caring for themselves. They may want to set healthier boundaries, regulate difficult emotions, improve their relationships, rebuild confidence, process painful experiences, or make decisions that better align with their values. They may also be seeking a space where their culture, identity, family experiences, faith or spirituality, and personal values can be respected and thoughtfully included in the therapeutic process. I especially enjoy working with people who have spent a great deal of time caring for others, minimizing their own needs, or questioning their judgment. Together, we can work toward helping you feel more grounded, confident, emotionally secure, and connected to your authentic self. You do not have to be perfect at therapy. You only need to be willing to show up honestly, remain curious about yourself, and take meaningful steps toward the life and relationships you want.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help clients develop a healthier relationship with difficult thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Rather than feeling pressured to eliminate every uncomfortable feeling, clients learn how to make room for emotions without allowing them to control their choices. Together, we identify personal values, notice patterns of avoidance, and explore whether current behaviors are moving the client closer to or further away from the life they want. I incorporate mindfulness, self-compassion, cognitive defusion, and values-based action to help clients become more emotionally flexible. ACT can be especially helpful for anxiety, grief, trauma, life transitions, self-doubt, and feeling stuck. My goal is to help clients understand that they can experience discomfort while still making meaningful, intentional choices that reflect who they want to become.

Gestalt

I use Gestalt techniques to help clients become more aware of what they are experiencing in the present moment. This may include noticing emotions, physical sensations, body language, unfinished conversations, relationship patterns, or conflicting parts of themselves. Rather than focusing only on explaining why something happened, we also explore how the experience continues to affect the client now. I may invite clients to slow down, notice what is happening internally, speak from different perspectives, or participate in experiential exercises such as chair work, guided imagery, or dialogue with a younger or protective part of themselves. Gestalt therapy can help clients connect more deeply with their feelings, needs, boundaries, and authentic voice. I use these techniques gently and collaboratively, ensuring clients feel supported and never pressured to participate before they are ready.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients recognize how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence one another. Together, we identify automatic thoughts, core beliefs, assumptions, and behavioral patterns that may contribute to anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, avoidance, relationship difficulties, or emotional distress. I help clients examine whether their thoughts are accurate, helpful, or based on past experiences rather than the present situation. We then practice developing more balanced perspectives and healthier responses. CBT sessions may include thought reframing, coping strategies, behavioral activation, problem-solving, exposure-based techniques, or small goals to practice between sessions. My approach is collaborative and practical. I do not simply tell clients to “think positively.” Instead, I help them understand their patterns and develop realistic ways to respond with greater awareness, confidence, and flexibility.

Motivational Interviewing

I use Motivational Interviewing to support clients who feel uncertain, conflicted, discouraged, or not fully ready to make a change. Instead of pressuring clients or telling them what they should do, I help them explore their own reasons for wanting something different. Together, we examine ambivalence, identify barriers, recognize strengths, and clarify how their choices align with their values and long-term goals. I use open-ended questions, reflective listening, affirmations, and collaborative goal-setting to help clients strengthen confidence and motivation. This approach can be especially helpful when working through procrastination, unhealthy relationship patterns, lifestyle changes, substance use concerns, difficulty maintaining routines, or major decisions. I respect each client’s autonomy while helping them recognize that meaningful change can begin with small, realistic, and intentional steps.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I incorporate DBT skills to help clients manage intense emotions, reduce impulsive reactions, improve communication, and navigate distress more effectively. Depending on the client’s needs, we may practice mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and boundary-setting skills. I help clients identify emotional triggers, understand what happens in their bodies and thoughts during stressful moments, and create practical plans for responding differently. DBT also emphasizes the balance between acceptance and change. This means I will validate what a client is feeling while also helping them recognize behaviors or patterns that may need to shift. These skills can be especially beneficial for clients experiencing emotional overwhelm, relationship conflict, anxiety, anger, difficulty setting boundaries, or challenges recovering after stressful situations.
