I have been in the medical field for the last 25 yrs and have worked my way up from being a behavioral health tech to a unit secretary, patient care tech, LPN, RN for over 17 yrs and then have been a nurse practitioner for the last 5 yrs. I am dual-certified in family medicine and psychiatry. I love being able to use the knowledge that I have between both worlds to make the best decisions for my patients.
For the first appointment, I like to do a thorough intake, including discussing what the issues at hand are, what their past experiences are, medications they have tried in the past, what current medications they are on, what kind of history including medical and surgical they have encountered, family history, and social history. My first appointment should take anywhere from 45 -60 minutes.
I feel that my compassion, understanding and nonjudgemental personality helps me connect with my patients on multiple levels and they feel comfortable to open up to me easily.
I am experienced in medication manangement across the lifespan, but tend to have a great rapport with children and adolescents. I have a 15 and 17 yr old and I feel like I have a great connection with them which helps me have a better understanding. I am open to all ages, genders, religions, races and ethnicities.
I have been using CBT with other types of therapy techniques to help my patients change their negative thoughts and behaviors.
