Darius Brittingham

LPC (he/him)10 years of experience

I’m a compassionate and solution-focused mental health therapist who believes that seeking therapy is a sign of strength and an important step toward creating meaningful change. I provide a supportive, nonjudgmental, and collaborative space where you can feel heard, respected, and comfortable being yourself. My approach is centered on the belief that you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to help you identify your strengths, understand your challenges, and develop practical strategies that support your goals. I work with individuals and families experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, family conflict, life transitions, stress, trauma-related concerns, substance use, and other personal challenges. I incorporate Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing based on your individual needs. I focus on helping clients build healthier coping skills, improve communication, manage emotions, strengthen relationships, and move toward the life they want. My professional journey has given me the opportunity to work with people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. I understand that everyone’s journey is different, and I strive to meet each client where they are without judgment. Whether you are dealing with a specific challenge or simply feel ready for something to change, we can work together to identify realistic steps forward. My goal is to help you feel empowered, supported, and confident in your ability to create lasting change.

First session

I want every new client to leave their first session feeling heard, respected, understood, and hopeful about the possibility of change. Starting therapy can feel uncomfortable or unfamiliar, so I focus on creating a safe, nonjudgmental environment where you can be yourself. We will discuss what brought you to therapy, what you hope to accomplish, and what is currently working or creating challenges in your life. My solution-focused approach helps us identify your strengths, clarify your goals, and begin developing practical steps you can use between sessions. You do not have to have everything figured out before we begin. My approach also changes based on whether I am working with an individual, couple, or family. With individuals, I focus on personal goals, coping strategies, emotional well-being, and meaningful change. With couples, I focus on communication, understanding each partner’s perspective, rebuilding trust, and developing healthier patterns within the relationship. With families, I focus on communication, relationships, boundaries, and identifying patterns that may be contributing to conflict. In each setting, I remain collaborative and respectful while helping clients identify solutions that fit their unique circumstances. My goal is for clients to leave feeling that therapy is a place where they can be honest, make progress, and work toward a healthier and more fulfilling life.

Strengths

What makes my approach unique is the combination of professional experience, life experience, and a genuine belief that people can make meaningful changes in their lives. My background working with individuals experiencing mental health concerns, substance use, life transitions, relationship challenges, and other difficult circumstances has taught me that every person’s story is different. I understand that progress does not always happen in a straight line, and I strive to meet each client where they are with patience, respect, and without judgment. My sessions are supportive, collaborative, and solution-focused. I am comfortable sitting quietly and creating space when you need to process your thoughts and emotions, but I am also willing to respectfully challenge you when I believe it can help you grow. I will not simply tell you what you want to hear. When appropriate, I may ask thoughtful questions, point out patterns, or encourage you to look at a situation from a different perspective. My goal is to challenge without making you feel judged and to support you without taking away your responsibility for your own growth. I believe you are the expert on your life. My role is to help you recognize your strengths, identify what is working, understand what may need to change, and develop practical steps toward your goals. I want clients to leave sessions feeling heard, understood, empowered, and equipped with tools they can use beyond the therapy room.

Ideal clients

My ideal client does not have to have everything figured out before starting therapy. They may simply recognize that something needs to change and be willing to explore what is and is not working. I work well with clients who want a supportive, collaborative, and practical approach to therapy. Together, we identify realistic goals, recognize existing strengths, develop effective coping strategies, and focus on solutions that can be applied to everyday life. My goal is to help clients feel heard and understood while also encouraging them to take meaningful steps toward greater stability, confidence, healthier relationships, and a more fulfilling life.

Treatment methods

Solution-Focused Brief Treatment

When you begin therapy with me, I use a solution-focused approach to help you identify what you want to change and what you would like your life to look like moving forward. Rather than focusing only on problems or what has gone wrong, we will explore your strengths, past successes, resources, and the things that are already working in your life. During our first sessions, I will listen to your concerns and work with you to identify meaningful and realistic goals. I may ask questions such as, “What would you like to be different?” or “If things improved, what would you notice first?” We will also explore times when a problem felt less overwhelming or when you successfully handled a difficult situation to identify strategies that may help you move forward. My role is not to tell you what you should do. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to help you recognize your strengths, clarify your goals, and develop practical strategies that fit your circumstances. Solution-focused therapy does not mean ignoring difficult emotions or experiences; instead, we make space for those concerns while also looking for opportunities, strengths, and solutions. Together, we will focus on progress rather than perfection, recognize small steps along the way, and work toward helping you leave each session with greater clarity, practical tools, and increased confidence in your ability to manage life's challenges.
